U.K.-based high-end speaker manufacturer KEF today announced that a range of new subwoofers is joining its roster of speakers. New models include the 1,000-watt KC92 and a range of four new subs in its Kube MIE series that offer oomph in varying sizes and prices.

Q Acoustics’ new M40 powered towers take aim at the compact sweet spot

With its sights set squarely on the all-in-one powered speaker market, British speaker maker Q Acoustics today launched its new M40 powered "micro tower" speakers, a $999 wireless audio system with all kinds of connectivity that sits in the Goldilocks zone between big-power towers and more modest bookshelf speakers.

A taller and bigger version of its excellent M20 HD wireless bookshelf system, the Q Acoustics M40s aren't quite as looming as many floorstanding speakers at just under 28-inches tall by 10-inches wide and 11.7-inches deep (its own 5050 floorstanders stand at 40 inches). But because they're self-powered and feature a wide range of inputs and connectivity, including RCA line-in, 3.5mm AUX, optical, USB, and Bluetooth, they eliminate the need for big components like receivers and amplifiers.

Sonos says new product (probably headphones) coming by fall

Sonos said today in its earnings call for the first quarter of its 2024 fiscal year that it will announce — and ship — a new product in a new category in the third quarter. While CEO Patrick Spence didn't shed anymore light as to what the new product will be, it's widely expected to be headphones.

Sonos' fiscal third quarter spans April through June. (A previous version of this story said July through September. We regret the error.) The company previously said the new product would land in the second (fiscal) half of the year, and today's announcement tightens that window to late summer.
