LG sweetens the deal on its new CineBeam Q projector

If you missed out on the $100-off coupon for the new LG CineBeam Q projector (previously known as the CineBeam Qube), fear not. LG has some other sweeteners in play for the 4K projector. And you have a few weeks to take advantage.

If you preorder it now for $1,299, LG will toss in a free XBoom 360 portable speaker — you’ll have to order the two together — a free leather case, and a $200 Mastercard prepaid card. The deal is good now through April 7, 2024. The CineBeam Q is expected to start shipping one day later.

We haven’t had a whole lot of time with the CineBeam Q as yet, but what we’ve seen has been fairly impressive given the price and the projector’s size. Using an RGB laser, the CineBeam Q is able to project up to a 120-inch image at 4K resolution, with a 450,000:1 contrast ratio. As we’ve previously noted (and as you’ve no doubt surmised by the price and the size), brightness won’t break any records at just 500 lumens. So you’re not going to be using the CineBeam Q in the full sunlight or anything. But in a relatively dim room, it’s done just fine.

You’re also not likely to use the CineBeam Q outdoors because, despite its small stature and built-in handle, it’s lacking a battery. So wherever you take it, it’ll have to be plugged in for power. That’s not to say you can’t take it outside and toss up a sheet for movie night — you’re just going to have to work a little harder for it.

Otherwise, it’s business as usual. The CineBeam Q is powered by LG’s webOS operating system, which gets you pretty much all the streaming apps you could want. That also means it supports Chromecast and ScreenShare, so long as everything is on the same wireless network.

Other specs of note: The CineBeam Q weighs just 3.3 pounds and has a built-in 3-watt speaker. (So definitely take advantage of that free XBoom 360 deal.) It supports HD 10 and HLG on the high dynamic range front, and the 1.2 throw ratio puts the image sweet spot at 80 inches from 7 feet away, or 100 inches from 8.7 feet away.

LG prices its Flex, StanByMe TVs, and debuts a new model that doubles as magazine rack
LG OLED Flex TV

2022 has been a big year for LG's TVs, as the company has moved well beyond traditional wall- or stand-mounted models, into new designs that are targeted at specific audiences like gamers and those who want their TVs to be more than just black rectangles on a wall.

The company had previously introduced us to the bendable OLED Flex and the touchscreen-based StanByMe, but now, as part of the company's presence at the CEDIA show in Dallas, TX, LG has told us how much they'll cost. LG is also taking the opportunity to introduce a new model in its Objet series, known as the Posé -- a quirky, easel-like TV that has space for things like magazines on its rear shelf.

LG’s latest 4K UST projector only needs 2.2 inches of wall clearance
lg cinebeam hu915qe ultra short throw 4k laser projector 01

LG's new flagship ultra-short-throw (UST) 4K laser projector, the CineBeam HU915QE, sets some impressive new benchmarks, with 3,700 lumens of claimed brightness, and the ability to be placed as close as 2.2 inches away from a wall. At that distance, it can create a 90-inch image, but if you move it just a little farther away, to a distance of 7.2 inches, that image size can increase to a massive 120 inches. We're still waiting to hear how much LG wants for the HU915QE, but the company says it will be available to order before the end of June 2022.

UST projectors are the perfect solution for those who crave super-large image sizes for their movies, sports, and games, and who don't want to contend with a projector in the middle of their room or suspended from their ceiling. LG is no stranger to laser-driven UST projectors and has produced several models over the past few years. The HU915QE is the second and most advanced LG UST projector to be announced in 2022 -- it follows the the previously released CineBeam HU715Q, which only delivers 2,500 lumens.

LG debuts two new CineBeam 4K HDR projectors
LG CineBeam HU715Q and HU710P 4K HDR projectors.

LG has unveiled its two most advanced projectors to date. The LG CineBeam HU715Q and HU710P both feature 4K resolution and HDR capabilities with 2,000,000:1 contrast ratios. Both models will be available in the first quarter of 2022, and LG released pricing on February 28.

The HU710P will retail at $2,500. It uses a hybrid laser-LED light source, which LG says doesn't require a color wheel, and can generate up to 2,000 lumens of brightness. The HU715Q, which is a larger, ultra short throw model, uses just laser light and produces up to 2,500 lumens. Both projectors will work in most indoor settings, but LG says they can also be enjoyed outside, after sunset.
