Marvel and Paramount have released the first official trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s superhero movie. Thor is due out May 6, 2011.

The next Avenger to make it to the big screen will be Thor, and the first official trailer for the soon to be blockbuster has debuted. Earlier this year, a lengthier trailer was leaked following Comic-Con, but this is the first authorized clip of the upcoming film.

Thor stars Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, the upcoming Red Dawn) and Natalie Portman, and it pits the thunder god against his adopted brother Loki. The movie will join the Iron Man films, as well as the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger as the building blocks of 2012’s The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon.

Thor debuts in select countries on April 27, 2011, and is released in 3D on May 6.

  1. Sigh at 1:01am 26th December 2010 Heimdall isn't a black guy.Kingpin wasn't black in the Daredevil comics,Alicia was not supposed to be black in Fantastic Four either....why must Marvel cast a token black person in their movies ? I don't see them casting token whites in black roles.Who in the hell would want to see a white guy as Blade or The Black Panther ? See what I mean ? Just be true to the character people !
  2. not A white guy at 10:25am 20th December 2010 Right, or have Jackie Chan star in the roll of Huckleberry Finn. Look, fictional / mythological character or not its simply odd and inaccurate for those rolls to be filled by people nothing fitting the description......no different then casting Steve Bushemi as Thor....ok, hes white....but he also looks nothing at all like what Thor looks like so they didnt do it. Its about appearance, not race.....and when it comes to them entertainment businesses looks are one of the primary factors determining if someone gets a roll or not.
  3. GeoMan at 7:19pm 16th December 2010 Well if they made Heimdall black that maybe Brad Pitt can star as Kunta Kinte in a remake of that ROOTS movie
  4. Daniel Fletcher at 6:16am 13th December 2010 I agree with the above comment, why would that make any difference wether he was black or white? I think you need to wake up and realise what century you are in! I'm sure Mr Brannagh has done the marvel character justice here, looks very promising from the trailer and also a good cast!
    1. RGonzalesInTX at 5:59am 21st December 2010 And you sir, should realize what century the base material was written in. Don't think there were many black people running around Scandanavia in the 11th century. And just as an aside, one of the Nordic names for Heimdall is THE WHITE GOD. Hello?
  5. DCole76 at 2:17am 13th December 2010 Seriously, if you aren't a racist, why would you care if ANY Norse god were black??? It amazes me that in 2010 someone would actually have a problem with a black man portraying a mythological character. Sad. But, I digress, AWESOME teaser trailer for what I am sure is going to be a phenomenal beginning for another Marvel franchise....
    1. RGonzalesInTX at 5:46am 21st December 2010 Well, when Brad Pitt is cast as Martin Luther King, Jr, then I won't have a problem with it. Or if you want to keep it strictly to imaginary characters then let us then cast Seth Rogan as Kunta Kinte or how about a Color Purple reboot, staring Natalie Portman as Celie, Ellen DeGeneris as Sophia and Jet Li as Mr. Albert?
  6. Not A Racist at 3:07pm 12th December 2010 Why. Oh why did they have to make Heimdall a black dude.
  7. ioman at 9:22pm 11th December 2010 Looks great, at least as good as the Iron Man movies.
