Sony has announced the cover athlete for next year’s edition of its long-running series of officially licensed baseball video games. The cover of MLB The Show 17 will be adorned with the likeness of the legendary Ken Griffey Jr., a 13-time All-Star competitor, and a 22-year veteran of the league.

A blog post written by Ramone Russell, a member of the game’s development team, contends that there’s “no other name more synonymous with baseball in the 90’s and 2000’s” than Griffey. The player is best known for his time with the Seattle Mariners and the Cincinnati Reds, but also spent a brief spell with the Chicago White Sox.

As in previous years, the Canadian version of the game will feature a different cover athlete, but there are no details at this time on which player has been picked.

Griffey is no stranger to the world of video games. In the 1990s, Nintendo owned a majority share of the Seattle Mariners while he played for the club, so the company produced several games emblazoned with his name and likeness for the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64.

However, as of 2016, it has been almost twenty years since the player appeared in a video game. As a result, Sony is going the extra mile to mark the occasion, releasing a special edition of MLB The Show 17 packed with collectors items and bonus in-game content.

The Hall of Fame Edition comes with a limited edition MVP steel book case, and a New Era 9FIFTY snapback. There’s also a 9FIFTY hat to use in-game, diamond and gold season starter packs, 11,000 stubs, a sponsor pack, ten standard packs, and 31 different MLB themes for your PlayStation 4.

MLB The Show 17 is set to release for the PlayStation 4 on March 28, 2017. The Hall of Fame Edition of the game will retail for $100.

MLB Playoffs: How to recreate playoff games in MLB The Show 19
Recreate the playoffs in MLB The Show 19 and see who's the World Series Champion
mlb playoffs how to recreate playoff games in the show 19 postseason

Baseball fans rejoice as the month-long championship journey known as the MLB Playoffs finally arrive. Usually, the MLB Postseason runs from early October to about October 28th, and that’s a long wait for a World Series Champion to be crowned. If you want to skip past the festivities and create your own Postseason excitement, jump into MLB the Show 19 where players don’t have to wait long to experience the Fall classic also known as the World Series. Thanks to a mode known as Postseason mode, you can now play out or simulate the entire MLB Playoffs -- complete with the updated rosters -- in a fraction of the time. Not sure how to do this? Well, we have a guide that will show you how.
How to recreate playoff games in MLB The Show 19

When first booting up MLB the Show 19 after advancing past the title screen, the game will automatically search and download the updated live rosters.
After live rosters are done downloading, you are going to want to press the right bumper and move over to the options tab. From here you’ll want to select the data utility option and select “Save Live Roster”.
In this window, you will be asked to create a name for your Roster and it will then save this file. This will ensure that you have the updated live rosters available when starting your postseason on MLB the Show.
Once you have the updated live roster saved, you are going to press the left bumper and move over to the Mini Modes tab. Here you’re going to select the Postseason mode. From here you will select “Start New” and then select “Load Saved Rosters”.
You will then be given the option to select a saved Roster from your saved files. You’re going to want to select the latest live roster that you have saved manually as previously noted in step 1.
After the updated roster has loaded you will be presented with a Postseason bracket screen with a window labeled “Select User Teams” on the top right. Here is where you will be able to change the Postseason bracket so that it can match the real-life MLB 2019 Postseason bracket.
Once the teams have been selected and placed in their correct brackets, You will have to choose at least one team as the “User” team in order to proceed. This doesn’t force you to play in any games, however, so if you wanted to simulate the entire Postseason you can still do so. Sidenote: Selecting one team will only show you the schedule of the team selected. If you would like to see and possibly play each Postseason game then you will have to set all teams in the brackets as user teams.
After a “User” team has been selected, you can advance to the next screen which is simply called Options. Here you can make changes to the structure of how the Postseason operates. If you’re still aiming for authenticity, however, you will want to copy the settings we have here.
Advancing at this point will get you to the Postseason home screen. Here you can manage different items like pitching rotation and team lineups but most importantly, you can view the Postseason bracket and Schedule by selecting the schedule option.
Once you’re in the Schedule window you will now be able to see the Postseason schedule for the team(s) you have selected as user teams. From here you can go to a specific game in the series or any blank date and press the X (or A on Xbox) button. You will then be given a list of options as seen below.
At this point, you can choose how you want the Postseason to play out. You can play each individual game and feel the intensity of the fall classic or you can simply simulate through the entire Postseason like we did.
Our simulation has the Houston Astros winning another World Series trophy. Personally, that sounds like a safe bet but we’ll see what the actual outcome is in a few weeks as the MLB Postseason is in full swing.

3 Xbox Game Pass games you need to play this weekend (May 3-5)
Senua in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

Another weekend is upon us, and you're probably looking for some games to kill time with over the course of it. We're in a bit of a lull right now ahead of a flurry of releases starting next week, so it's a great time to dip back into the Xbox Game Pass catalog and check out some games that you may have missed. There are three games in particular that I think you should check out this weekend if you're looking for something to play.

One is an unsettling adventure that's getting an Xbox-exclusive sequel later this month. The next is a finely animated roguelike indie that recently made its way to Microsoft's gaming subscription service. Finally, there's a relaxing adventure that gives players a lot of freedom, yet is short enough to beat in a weekend. If you're having trouble deciding what to play this weekend, give one of these games a shot.

3 underrated PS Plus games you should play this weekend (May 3-5)
The main character of Tales of Kenzera: Zau stands with two elemental items.

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra have been around for almost two years, and during that time the subscription service has established itself as an ample competitor to Xbox Game Pass. That means there is a wealth of great games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners to check out if they're looking for something to play this weekend. I think PS Plus subscribers should be looking toward some of the more underrated games in the subscription service this weekend too.

I have three particular picks in mind. The first is an enjoyable Metroidvania that came to PS Plus' game catalog when it launched just a couple of weeks ago and deserves a lot more attention than it's getting. After that, there's an action-platformer that pays homage to series like Ninja Gaiden that you should check out before it leaves the catalog. Finally, there's a PS2-era Star Wars game that fills the niche a recently canceled game would have.
