Nintendo Direct event shows off ‘Pokkén Tournament DX’ for Switch

A Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct today revealed two new games for both the Switch and the 3DS — though they’re both new versions of existing games, they should have enough new content to keep even the most dedicated Pokémon trainers satisfied.

The Nintendo Switch still doesn’t technically have an exclusive Pokémon game, but in September, it will add Pokkén Tournament DX to its growing library. This enhanced version of the Wii U fighter — a Tekken-like fighter featuring Pokémon — will include several characters including Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk, Deciddueye, bringing the total roster to 21. The game will also feature three-versus-three battles and a few extra options for online play. Pokkén Tournament DX is out for Switch on September 22. A tournament will be held during E3 on June 14, featuring eight YouTube and Twitch personalities.

Overlooked when it launched on the Wii U, Pokkén Tourmanent sounds like it will be right at home on Nintendo Switch, especially for local tournaments using multiple consoles.

No traditional Pokémon game will be making its way to Switch just yet, but 3DS players will be getting two new games this fall. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon feature a brand new story set within the world of the original Sun and Moon games, and it includes Pokémon not present in the earlier games. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will hit 3DS systems on November 17.

But wait, there’s more! On September 22, Game Boy Color classics Pokémon Gold and Silver will hit the Virtual Console on 3DS systems. The games are often considered the pinnacle of the franchise and includes access to both the new Johto region and the Kanto region from the original games. Many of its monsters were recently added to Niantic’s Pokémon Go.

Logitech PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 SE featured

Back-to-School sales are everywhere right now, but gaming accessories are one category where it's surprisingly easy to end up with outdated gear that only looks like a bargain. A real deal isn't just about a lower price, but it also needs to be a product that's still genuinely worth buying. After digging through this year's discounts, I kept coming back to the same three products. Whether it's a lightweight esports mouse, a comfortable wireless headset, or a controller that turns a phone into a handheld console, these are the accessories I'd actually recommend picking up while they're on sale.
