‘Infamous: Second Son’ leads September’s free PlayStation Plus games

inFAMOUS Second Son - E3 Trailer (PS4) | E3 2013
You are likely going to be spending the majority of your time in September leveling up your Guardian in Destiny 2, but if you are itching to take a break and play something else, you will have a few good options in September’s free PlayStation Plus games. A certain PlayStation-exclusive superhero series leads the pack, as well as a PlayStation VR title.

Beginning next Tuesday, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to grab Infamous: Second Son. The superhero sequel originally released in 2014 and protagonist Delsin Rowe’s multiple power sets give you several different ways to explore Seattle. The stand-alone expansion Infamous: First Light was previously available as a PlayStation Plus freebie back in 2015.

PlayStation 4 players will also be able to pick up the aerial combat game Strike Vector Ex, which was redesigned with the PlayStation 4’s control scheme in mind. The PlayStation 4 version released last August and critics praised its old-school shooter roots and multiplayer gameplay.

But wait, there is more!PlayStation VR owners will also get a freebie in September in the form of Rigs: Mechanized Combat League. The multiplayer competitive sport-shooter was released as a launch title with the headset last year, and it makes tremendous use of the technology. A fun single-player option will also help you get up to speed with the game’s controls as well as its many robotic Rigs. With the game releasing for free, it should also see an influx of new players who can compete against each other.

PlayStation 3 players will receive Truck Racer, which originally launched in 2014 and is also available on PC. Also available on PlayStation 3 is Handball 2016 — it appears Sony might be running out of freebies to give away with the aging platform.

Lastly, the PlayStation Vita has not been forgotten. Indie hit Hatoful Boyfriend is coming to the handheld for free next month, as is We Are Doomed. The latter game is a twin-stick shooter also available on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. Both free games will also be free on PlayStation 4.

What do you think of September’s free PlayStation Plus games? Do you want to see more PlayStation VR titles offered? Be sure to let us know in the comments!

Update: Sony originally announced incorrect PlayStation 3 and Vita games for September. We have updated this piece to include the correct free games.

PlayStation Plus’ most notable free April offerings come from Microsoft
Four players stand together in the 4v4 PvP mode of Minecraft Legends.

Sony outlined all the new offerings PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can expect in April; surprisingly, Microsoft is the company behind two of this month's four offerings, Minecraft Legends, and the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle.

On April 2, PS Plus can get those two things free of charge in addition to Immortals of Aveum and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is a single-player shooter where players use magic instead of weapons. Although the thing it's most notable for is flopping upon its release, Immortals of Aveum is still a solid shooter that you might have missed out on, and you should give it a shot now that you can get it through PS Plus. Meanwhile, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a tough 2D platformer roguelike that should entertain fans of that genre for quite some time.

PlayStation VR2 production reportedly paused by Sony
PlayStation VR2 headset on blue background.

Sony is reportedly pausing production of the PlayStation VR2 headsets because it has a backlog of unsold headsets.

This report comes from Bloomberg, which claims that PSVR2 sales have slowed every quarter since its February 2023 release, causing stocks of the device to build up. It says Sony has produced 2 million headsets but reportedly hasn't sold through them yet. As a result, it's apparently pausing the production on new units until it works through some of that backlog, according to Bloomberg's anonymous sources.

Does PlayStation 5 have a web browser?
Playstation 5 with a controller.

Sony added a bunch of great functionality to PS5, but one thing that's missing is a web browser. Unlike its predecessor, PS4, there's not a standard web browser you can access from your home screen. That's a bit of a letdown, as it feels like a huge step back from what was available years ago.

Thankfully, all is not lost. With a little elbow grease and a lot of ingenuity, you can access a web browser on PS5. The process is quite convoluted, and it's not the most user-friendly browser, but it's possible to surf the web on your fancy new-gen console.
