How to watch PlayStation Experience 2017, and what to expect

Sony’s PlayStation E3 press conference in June was a little lackluster, with few AAA game announcements, but the company has another event which should hold more exciting news: PlayStation Experience 2017. Here is how to watch the weekend-long event, as well as what to expect.

PlayStation Experience 2017 will be available to watch on PlayStation’s own live-stream site, as well as Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook. You can view the Twitch stream directly above, so you won’t have to visit any of the sites directly, if you prefer.

The event kicks off at 11 p.m. ET on Friday, December 8 with a “PlayStation Presents” show. PlayStation promises new announcements as well as updates on previously-revealed titles and conversations with developers. It sounds similar to the pre-show video Sony ran prior to its E3 presentation, which included information on Knack 2.

The rest of the PlayStation Experience 2017 panels will take place on Saturday, December 9. The events and times are listed below.

  • 2 p.m. ET — Media Molecule Presents Dreams
  • 5 p.m. ET — IGN ranks the top 10 PlayStation games of all time
  • 6:30 p.m. ET — Ghost of Tsushima: From Concept to Reveal
  • 8 p.m. ET — Uncharted 10th Anniversary Celebration
  • 9:30 p.m. ET — The Last of Us Part II: Meet the Cast

The biggest event of the day will undoubtedly be for The Last of Us Part II, which has only had a brief cutscene release to the public thus far. No gameplay has been shown, and aside from the time period and information about Ellie and Joel, we know remarkably little about the game. The panel will include director Neil Druckmann and co-writer Halley Gross, along with “key members of the game’s cast.” In addition to Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson returning to play Joel and Ellie, we also know Westworld actor Shannon Woodward will be playing an unspecified role.

The Uncharted 10th Anniversary Celebration will also feature a number of the series’ cast members, including lead Nolan North, Emily Rose, Laura Bailey, Troy Baker, and Robin-Atkin Downes. Many of the actors went on to play roles in The Last of Us — North himself made the jump from lovable hero Nathan Drake to the villainous cannibal David, giving a chilling and sadistic performance.

In November, I reviewed the PlayStation Portal. I was mixed on Sony’s streaming handheld at the time, frustrated with a corner-cutting execution of a good idea. It seemed like a poor value compared to simply slapping a cheaper Backbone controller on a phone. As is often the case with tech reviews, though, I only had a short window to test it out where I was more focused on the more objective side of what the Portal does and doesn’t do. Would my feelings change when I was using it naturally?

I’ve gotten the answer to that question over the past few months. While I barely touched my Portal after reviewing it in 2023, it’s quickly become a go-to device in my home as of January. I’m now breaking it out at least once a week, finding some practical use cases for it. Though my overall assessment of it hasn’t changed, I have a more tangible understanding of where it can be a useful -- if superfluous -- PS5 companion. It’s a needless luxury, but one that I’m finding that I'm happy to indulge in.

The PlayStation Portal’s launch just so happened to come right before a major life change that would shift my perspective. After living alone for three years, my girlfriend moved into my apartment last December. It’s been a natural change that’s working great so far. That shift does come with some lifestyle changes, though. We’re both crammed into a one-bedroom apartment, which means we’re sharing a tight space. We remotely do our jobs feet apart in the same room, and most evenings are spent lounging on the couch.

When is the PlayStation Spring Sale 2024?
The PlayStation Spring Sale started on March 27, 2024, but new deals were added on April 10 that will last until April 24.

If any deal is exclusively for a PS5 version of a game that is also on PS4, we will note that beside the title. Since all PS4 games run on PS5, we won't mark PS4 games.

Sony outlined all the new offerings PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers can expect in April; surprisingly, Microsoft is the company behind two of this month's four offerings, Minecraft Legends, and the Overwatch 2 Mega Bundle.

On April 2, PS Plus can get those two things free of charge in addition to Immortals of Aveum and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Immortals of Aveum is a single-player shooter where players use magic instead of weapons. Although the thing it's most notable for is flopping upon its release, Immortals of Aveum is still a solid shooter that you might have missed out on, and you should give it a shot now that you can get it through PS Plus. Meanwhile, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a tough 2D platformer roguelike that should entertain fans of that genre for quite some time.
