Everything leaving Amazon Prime Video in October

What’s the most valuable part of your Amazon Prime Video subscription? For some users, it’s the ability to get packages within a few days. But movie and TV lovers know that the heart of Prime Video features a wealth of films and shows that can brighten almost anyone’s day. Prime Video is a bit behind its competitors when it comes to originals, but it’s ahead of the game with its curated content. The bad news is that some of these shows and films are on their way out the door as part of the normal churn. The good news is that you still have time to catch your favorites. Just consult our list of everything leaving Amazon Prime Video in October and what we know of for early November, and plan accordingly.

Still can’t shake that fear of missing out? Check our other monthly roundups of Everything leaving Hulu and Everything leaving Netflix and make sure you get them in before they’re gone.

Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church are a winning comedic duo in Sideways. Giamatti plays a struggling writer, Miles Raymond, who reunites with his friend, Jack Cole (Church), for a trip through wine country. Much to Miles’ consternation, Jack is more interested in romancing a woman named Stephanie (Sandra Oh) rather than focusing on the trip or his own impending wedding to another woman. Meanwhile, Jack feels a strong mutual attraction with a waitress, Maya Randall (Virginia Madsen). However, the lies of both Miles and Jack threaten to derail their new relationships.

What’s new on Hulu in May 2024 and what’s leaving soon
Austin Butler lounges on a red couch in Elvis.

There are so many reality shows coming to Hulu in May that you could start to wonder if this was actually supposed to be the schedule for Max. Fortunately, the lineup of movies coming to Hulu in May is exceptionally strong, including Elvis, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Mask, Cast Away, Those Who Wish Me Dead, all of the Die Hard films, and more.

Because it premiered on April 30, FX's The Veil doesn't show up on this month's Hulu list, but it's bound to be one of the most popular shows of the month alongside Welcome to Wrexham season 3. There's also new episodes of first-run network series from ABC and Fox, including the season 2 premiere of Jeopardy! Masters on May 2.

What’s new on Amazon Prime Video in May 2024
Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You.

Unlike some other streaming services in May, Amazon Prime Video is giving subscribers all of the movies that they can handle. Everything from classic Westerns like 3:10 To Yuma and comedies like Airplane! to dramas like Cold Mountain and more are arriving on May 1. Even the German thriller Run Lola Run is back on Prime Video. And if you haven't seen it yet, you should -- it's terrific.

Prime Video is also premiering new originals in May, including Anne Hathaway's new romantic drama The Idea of You, as well as Outer Range season 2, The GOAT, and Clarkson's Farm. George Clooney's period drama The Boys in The Boat is also arriving on Prime Video this month, but not until May 28.

What’s new on Netflix and what’s leaving in May 2024
Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan as Colin and Penelope looking at each other in Bridgerton.

Netflix has generally weathered the aftermath of the 2023 Hollywood strikes better than its streaming rivals. However, Netflix's lineup in May looks significantly weaker than in the recent past. There's a distinct lack of blockbuster movies from other studios. Even Netflix's original series are slowing down this month. The most significant arrival is Bridgerton season 3, and Netflix is splitting that season into two parts, making fans wait until June to get some closure.

There are other highlights, including Jerry Seinfeld's Unfrosted, Blood of Zeus, and the complete run of the animated spy comedy Archer. But compared to the shows and movies that Netflix had earlier in 2024, it's really lackluster.
