How to transfer your Marvel’s Spider-Man save from PS4 to PS5

Though it wasn’t the original plan, Insomniac Games has implemented a way to transfer your Marvel’s Spider-Man save from the PlayStation 4 to the Remastered PS5 version. The update has recently gone live, and while the transfer process works well, there are a few steps you need to take to get it to work.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to transfer your PS4 save to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PS5, step by step.

Upload your save from PS4 version

Before you attempt anything, you’ll need to have both versions of the game: Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 and Remastered on PS5. You can use the digital or physical edition of the PS4 game — but keep in mind that Remastered is only available on PS5 digitally. Both need to be updated to their latest versions, and you must use the same PSN account across both.

To start, load up your copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4. This can be done via a PS4 or through the PS5 using backward compatibility. If you have the disc, simply insert it into the PS5 system. If you have a digital copy, you’ll need to specifically download the PS4 game onto your system. Make sure it’s the PS4 version and not the Remastered edition on PS5. To download it, head to your Game Library on PS5, and you’ll be able to categorize your list by platform. Filter it by PS4 games, and you’ll see your PS4 copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man here. Download it, and you’ll be ready to go.

Once you’ve booted up the PS4 version, press R1 from the game’s main menu to upload the save of your choice. You’ll get a notice that says “Upload Save?” Press X to continue, and assuming you’re connected to the internet and are using the game’s latest update, it’ll tell you it’s successful.

Overnight we released an update for Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 bringing those suits, and the ability to export your save to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.

We also updated Remastered to allow import of those exported saves and with many additional fixes (incl. rest mode crash) https://t.co/LVnYVykc0Q

The next step is to boot up your copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PS5. After you’ve loaded into the main menu, press R1 to download the PS4 console save. A text box will then appear that reads “Download PS4 Console Save?” Press X to confirm, and it’ll tell you it’s successful. Now, you’ll be able to pick up right where you left off on PS4.

The best part is that every trophy you unlocked on the PS4 version will automatically unlock for PS5, meaning if you got the platinum the first time around, you’ll get it again with almost zero effort. Since there are two trophy lists, you’re basically double dipping, which is a neat feature for trophy hunters.

The 5 best HDMI cables for PS5 in 2024
The Playstation 5 system standing upright.

Every purchase of the PlayStation 5 comes with an HDMI cable to connect the console to your TV. However, there are limitations to the included HDMI cable, such as its pretty short length of just 5 feet. To be able to set up your gaming area the way that you want it, you'll need to buy a new HDMI cable, but since there are so many options out there, we've rounded up the best HDMI cables for PS5.

The PlayStation 5 is a powerful console, and as you can see from the best PS5 exclusives, it offers an unparalleled gaming experience. However, it's recommended that you play on a 4K TV so that you'll be able to enjoy the sharpest and most realistic graphics that it offers, and you need an HDMI cable that will be able to properly transmit the images from the console to the screen.

PS4 vs. PS5: which console should you buy in 2024?
PlayStation 5 controller and PS5.

PlayStation 5 has been available for several years now, and it's easier than ever to find it in stock at retailers. The new-gen hardware makes big upgrades over its predecessor, letting gamers enjoy better graphics, shorter loading times, and support for the fancy DualSense controller. It's also much more expensive than PS4, so while PS5 is better than PS4 in most regards, it might not be ideal for frugal shoppers.

But is PS4 or PS5 the better choice in 2024? Does the aging PS4 really make sense to purchase right now, or should you opt for the PS5? From pricing and available games to storage and resolution, here's a closer look at these two popular consoles.
PS5 vs. PS4 vs. PS4 Pro specs
Even a cursory glance at the specs of the PS5 shows that it’s in a different league than the PS4 (and even the PS4 Pro). Sony has improved the capabilities of its platform in every way, adding more efficient storage, faster compute parts, support for larger capacity disks, and support for higher resolutions. We know there are two versions of the PS5 -- the Standard Edition and Digital Edition -- both of which will offer the same specs (with the exception of the omission of a disc drive with the Digital Edition).

PS5 themes: Can you customize your homescreen?
A person plays Crash Bandicoot using a PS5 DualSense controller.

There's a lot to love about PS5, but it's missing one key feature from the old PS4 -- themes. On the old console, themes were used as a way to customize your homescreen and were often inspired by iconic games or beloved characters. Unfortunately, themes aren't available on PS5, though Sony has implemented a cool new feature that modifies the background as you browse your collection of games.

Here's a comprehensive look at how you can customize your PS5 homescreen and whether you can change its background.
