Takashi Doscher will write Sony’s Ghosts of Tsushima movie

As exemplified by the box office success of Uncharted earlier this year, Sony Pictures is serious about translating some of PlayStation’s top titles into live-action. Now, via Deadline, there’s movement on the feature film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima, the hit video game that debuted on PlayStation 4 in 2020. Screenwriter Takashi Doscher has signed on to write the film for director Chad Stahelski.

Ghost of Tsushima is set in 1274 during a Mongol invasion led by Khotun Khan. The player-controlled character is Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior who narrowly survives a harrowing ordeal as the island of Tsushima falls. As the last survivor of his clan, Jin assembles allies and embarks on a guerrilla warfare campaign in order to liberate his home from the invaders. The game was developed by Sucker Punch Productions, and it has been wildly successful on both PS4 and PS5. Over 8 million copies have been sold to date.

Doscher’s previous credits include Still and the sci-fi romance, Only, as well as an ESPN documentary, A Fighting Chance. He also wrote the screenplay for Blue, an AGBO-produced film for MGM that is described as “a twist on a Japanese monster movie.” Stahelski has directed all of the John Wick films to date, including the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4.

While Ghost of Tsushima is the second film in development for Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions’ partnership, it’s far from the only live-action PlayStation adaptation in the works. HBO ordered a series based upon The Last of Us, which is currently in production. Peacock has also ordered a live-action series based on Sony’s Twisted Metal games, with Anthony Mackie cast in a leading role.

Like Netflix’s hit series Dead Boy Detectives? Then watch these 3 shows right now
Two boys sit in an office in Dead Boy Detectives.

The task of finding another show to watch based on a show you just enjoyed watching can be more difficult than you might think. Streaming algorithms can be effective for some things, but definitely not for everything, and there's no guarantee that whatever you liked about one show will actually make an appearance in another.

If, for example, you were really into Netflix's Dead Boy Detectives, which follows two young ghosts as they solve crimes along with a clairvoyant, you may like it for any number of reasons, from its sense of humor to its flirtations with the afterlife. If you're looking for another show that offers something similar, then we've carefully curated three that should fit the bill and may have flown under your radar.

Juventus vs Milan live stream: Can you watch for free?
Massive open air soccer stadium with a game in play.

Juventus and Milan clash in a Top-3 Serie A showdown today at Allianz Stadium. Though the stakes are considerably lower now that Inter have officially claimed this season's Scudetto, this is still a compelling matchup between two of Italy's premier sides.

This one is starting very soon, at 12:00 p.m. ET. It will stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States, but we've found a handful of different ways you can watch the match live online for free.

Netflix is streaming the craziest action movie of 2024. Here’s why I loved it
A man floating in air kicks another man in the face in City Hunter.

This month seems to be the time to release action movies that color outside the lines. We've already had Dev Patel's Monkey Man, a messy, throw-everything-at-the-wall action movie that blends intricate fight sequences and on-the-nose social commentary in an entertaining package that will surely gain cult status in the near future. Just this weekend, Boy Kills World dished out loads of cartoon violence and over-the-top gore in a bid for John Wick-level fandom. Both movies bend or break the rules of reality to deliver quickly cut fight scenes that push the boundaries of the genre, all in an attempt to one-up the high standards set by the best movies in the Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious franchises.

Yet the best of the April bunch is the one that has the lowest profile. City Hunter doesn't star anyone you'd recognize like It actor Bill Skarsgård in Boy Kills World and hasn't been backed by an extensive marketing campaign like Universal's Monkey Man. But the movie is a blast; it's like putting Pop Rocks in a can of Mountain Dew and chasing it down with a couple of Pixy Sticks. It's ludicrous, immature, and totally unrealistic. It's also my favorite action movie of 2024. Here's why you need to stream City Hunter pronto.
It's an adaptation of a massively popular franchise
