Did I do that? Apple blushes, recalls MacBook Airs for faulty SSDs

If the hard drive on your MacBook Air imploded on you recently, if may not have been the Old Fashioned you spilled on the keyboard last month after all. As it turns out, a number of recent MacBook Airs have faulty solid-state drives (SSDs) that have been causing them to fail.

Apple recalled the affected computers on Friday with a bulletin posted on its support pages. It covers MacBook Airs sold between June 2012 and June 2013 with certain 64GB and 128GB flash drives. To see if your drive could be teetering on the brink of oblivion, you can download the MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1 from the Mac App Store, which will flag machines that need the fix.

If you’re one of the lucky losers, Apple will replace the drive at a retail store or authorized service providers – sorry, you’re not getting a whole new MacBook. In the meantime, Apple also recommends you lay off operating system updates and new apps, which could send your drive over the edge. And of course, backup your data while you can.

I expected this comparison to be uglier. Instead, they were mostly competent, which somehow made the whole thing more suspicious.

These aren’t identical tools wearing different logos. Meta pitches Muse Image as a social image model living inside Meta AI and its apps. Google frames Nano Banana 2 around speed, editing, and Gemini’s broader knowledge. OpenAI sells ChatGPT Images 2.0 on text rendering, visual control, and stronger prompt handling. Different ambitions, same polished little showroom.

AI voice assistants have been chasing the sci-fi dream for years, but they still have a hard time holding a conversation with humans. Most voice systems still need clear turns, clean pauses, and a few seconds before they respond. OpenAI is now rolling out GPT-Live, a new voice model for ChatGPT Voice that is designed to make those exchanges feel faster and less scripted.

The main upgrade is what OpenAI calls a full-duplex architecture. In simpler terms, GPT-Live can listen and speak at the same time. It continuously processes what the user is saying while also generating its own response, allowing it to decide when to talk, when to pause, when to keep listening, and when to use a tool.
