Yahoo Refreshes Home Page

One of the most well trafficked Web sites got a facelift today as venerable online portal company Yahoo put up a preview of what they are calling the most significant redesign of their home page. It is available now for the United States, UK & Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, with general availability in all global markets later this summer.

The new Yahoo home page, said the Internet company, delivers a new level of interactive experience via AJAX and DHTML technologies. New and enhanced features available for preview include a personal preview area which delivers user specific information such as recent Yahoo Mail messages and local weather forecasts, highlights of the most popular and interesting Yahoo searches, expanded news and other content handpicked by Yahoo’s home page editors, a redesigned Yahoo Search box, simpler navigation and new content tabs and more personalization controls.

More enhancements will be made in the coming months.

“As the most visited destination on the Internet, Yahoo has always led the way in connecting people to the things they want to find and do — faster and better than anyone else,” said Dan Rosensweig, chief operating officer, Yahoo, in a statement. “By focusing on consumers’ needs and using what today’s technology can deliver, we were able to redefine what a home page could and should be. With an increased focus on search, content, community and personalization, we built a consumer-friendly home page that adds value and excitement for our users and advertisers.”
