IMDb Acquires Film Service Without A Box

Amazon.com subsidiary the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Without a Box, a Los Angeles-based company that has developed exclusive online tools designed to connect independent filmmakers to film festivals in 20 countries. Without a Box will continue to run as an independent operation; financial terms of the acquisition were not revealed.

“Our mission has always been to provide film lovers around the world with the most comprehensive movie-, TV-, and celebrity-related information,” said Colin Bryar, Vice President, IMDb. “Working with Without a Box, we can offer our viewers even more great film-related content.”

The deal should be a good one for Without a Box as well: more than 50 million visitors check in with the IMDb every month to look for information on films, television shows, actors, and other entertainment information. IMDb offers a high-interconnected online database of more than 1 million films and television shows. The additional exposure should enable Without a Box to more easily connect independent films with a wider audience.

The iKuddle is a smart litter box that scoops the poop for you
never touch cat poop again ikuddle smart litter box

Cats are wonderful companions that bring comfort in times of stress. On the other hand, if you're unfortunate enough to keep your cat's litter box in the bedroom or the living room, you know how these same elegant creatures can clear an area after they use the litter box. And often the only way to rid your room of that smell is to scoop the poop, a task that precisely no one looks forward to.

The iKuddle Auto-Pack Litter Box aims to solve all of these problems. This product debuted on Kickstarter just over a week ago, and has earned $851,000 -- a far cry over the $30,000 originally asked for. People really hate scooping the litter box.

The Narwal Freo X Plus is an entry-level robot vacuum loaded with premium features
The Freo X Plus vacuuming pet hair.

Narwal launched the Freo X Ultra earlier this year, and we found it to be an exceptional robot vacuum and mop combo -- though its $1,400 price tag made it a luxury item for most shoppers. Thankfully, many of the Freo X Ultra's best features can be found on the newly launched Narwal Freo X Plus, which offers an affordable alternative to the flagship vacuum and mop combo.

The Freo X Plus should be much more appealing to frugal shoppers, as it clocks in at just $400. That's a full $1,000 cheaper than the Ultra, yet it still holds up to seven weeks of dust, can lift its mopping plate when traveling on carpet, and produces up to 7,800 Pa of suction to pull out dirt and debris from your carpets. It can even apply 6 Newton units of downward pressure while mopping, allowing it to tackle tough stains with ease.
