After a pre-alpha test back in February, Mozilla finally launched a developer version of its Fennec browser for the Windows Mobile OS on Friday. Developer Jason Lassey wrote:
“This is an early developer release intended for testing purposes only. We would like to invite interested Windows Mobile developers and users to join with Mozilla’s developer and user community to help develop, test and refine the product.”
This version of Fennec is said to have CSS-based user interface controls, support add-ons, and to manage memory more efficiently.
“The look and feel will continue to evolve as we develop the product, but this release should give uses a sense of the direction it’s going in,” said Lassey. However, it’s not ready for prime time yet, and Lassey recommends this version is not used for daily browsing tasks.
Although this version of Fennec has been developed for the HTC Touch Pro, other devices will follow.
