San Francisco-based NudeAudio has launched a crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter for the upcoming miniature, sand-proof and waterproof addition to its “Move” line: the Super-M. The Bluetooth speaker is designed to balance high-quality audio with portability to follow users into nearly any environment. The campaign was officially launched today and, at the time of publication, has garnered more than $45,000 of its $75,000 goal from over 500 backers.

NudeAudio launched last summer with the Move S, Move M, and Move L (small, medium, and large). The series was aimed at providing something for everyone with its varying sizes: “L for around the house, M to grab and take to the park and S to leave attached to your snowboard jacket or backpack,” the Kickstarter product page explains. “The grab-and-go size of M proved to be by far our most popular, so for our next and most ambitious development to date, we decided to explore how far we could take the acoustics in the M size.”

Thus, the Super-M was born. The revamped speaker pumps sound via four full-range, neodymium drivers (each pair is accompanied by a passive radiator for a total of six drivers) and two passive subwoofers for what NudeAudio claims to be “rich, accurate 360-degree sound unprecedented for a speaker of its size.”

The device has eight hours of battery life, speakerphone capabilities, and is encased in an IPX-5-rated waterproof housing with a shockproof silicone sleeve for protection.

With each passing month we’ve seen the steady influx of Bluetooth speakers take on bigger and badder features – we wouldn’t be surprised to see a speaker claiming to be able to withstand flames and cliff plunges. Of course, robust construction aside, it will be a challenge for the Super-M to deliver decent audio performance at such a small size.

If you’re interested to find out for yourself, you can back the project to get in line for your own Super-M starting at $79.
