For a project that was essentially cancelled at the start of this year, Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight seems to be rolling along at a rather quick pace just 10 months later. The latest update on the gritty western has actor Channing Tatum reportedly joining the cast in an unspecified, but significant role.

According to Deadline, Tatum is in talks for a “major role” in the film, which could begin filming sometime before the end of the year.

The Magic Mike actor is currently in the midst of promoting Foxcatcher, his upcoming film with Steve Carrell that’s generating some award buzz. If Tatum signs onto The Hateful Eight, he would join a cast that’s expected to include Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zoe Bell, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, James Remar, Tim Roth, and Kurt Russell.

The Hateful Eight is said to follow a group of people trapped in a saloon during a blizzard a few years after the Civil War. The group includes a pair of bounty hunters, a former Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner.

Back in January, Tarantino publicly cancelled the project after a copy of the script was leaked online. The screenplay generated enough buzz, however, for Tarantino to stage a public reading of it featuring many of the aforementioned actors, which then led to it being moved back into production.

Boy Kills World’s Dawid Szatarski on making the action movie’s insane fight scenes
A man hangs out with two guys in Boy Kills World.

Revenge is a dish best served ... with a cheese grater? Well, at least that's how the saying goes in Boy Kills World, the new martial arts action-comedy from director Moritz Mohr. Bill Skarsgård stars a Boy, a deaf and mute orphan who vows to kill Hilda van der Koy (Famke Janssen), the leader of an authoritarian regime who murdered his family. Under the tutelage of the mysterious shaman (Yayan Ruhian), Boy becomes a trained killer who will stop at nothing until he has his vengeance.

Boy Kills World is an ultraviolent ride with elaborate fight sequences and vicious kills, including a kitchen duel with that pesky cheese grater. Boy Kills World channels the spirit of John Wick, the martial arts of Korean action movies, the violence of a Street Fighter video game, and the aesthetic of Japanese anime for an action-packed revenge thriller.

Like Boy Kills World? Then watch these 3 extreme action movies now
A man puts his fists up and prepares for a fight.

We're living through something of an action movie renaissance, which means that it's a great time to be a fan of those kinds of movies. John Wick and the Mission: Impossible franchise have kick-started an entire wave of knockoffs, and while not all of these movies are great, the fact that we're getting so many that have basically nothing to do with superheroes is definitely a good sign.

Boy Kills World is one recent example of a gonzo, irreverent action movie about one man's obsessive drive for revenge. If you saw that movie and felt like you were picking up everything that it put down, we're recommending three more that are just as great ... and almost as bloody.
