Think you get invested in shows and movies now? Wait until you’re practically living in them. That’s one of the possibilities that the new Milk VR app for the Samsung Gear VR virtual reality headset, a new service that provides users with 360-degree video content.

Milk VR, which shares its inexplicable name with Samsung’s streaming video and music services, provides Gear VR owners with streaming and downloadable video content – all for free – that promises to immerse them in a variety of virtual situations. Samsung wants to make the Milk VR app essential viewing, something worth visiting day after day for new videos and experiences.

Eventually, Samsung aims to make videos five days a week for the app. The company has secured some partners to provide content including Skybound Entertainment, the company behind Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead and Invincible. Skybound will be providing an exclusive thriller video only for Milk VR.

It’s worth noting that while Samsung has announced Milk VR, it’s likely going to be a slow roll out until the content is there. The app is available now as a technical preview with a limited amount of video, and the Gear VR isn’t particularly consumer focused at this point – though you can get your hands on one if you really want.
