Crushing it: Wil Wheaton to play Abe Lincoln in Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.

Actor, writer, and gamer Wil Wheaton plays Abraham Lincoln in Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., the upcoming 3DS-exclusive strategy game from Fire Emblem and Advance Wars studio Intelligent Systems. Set in a fictional, steampunk London, the player joins an elite task force, founded by Lincoln to protect the world from alien threats.

The casting was announced via Twitter, one week prior to the game’s release.

Lincoln is one of many characters in the game pulled from the breadth of Americana, both historical and literary. Playable characters include Tiger Lily from Peter Pan, the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz, and Tom Sawyer. The game’s design draws heavily from the Silver Age of American comic books, such as the work of Captain America creator Jack Kirby. In that regard it is reminiscent of Ken Levine’s Freedom Force games.

Unlike the real-time strategy of Freedom Force, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. is turn-based, like Intelligent Systems’ other popular strategy franchises. Each character is moved in sequence, with a fixed amount of steam to be spent each round on movement and actions. Unlike earlier Intelligent efforts, perspective is limited to a tight, third-person view from behind each character as you move them through the three-dimensional environments. Removing the omniscient eagle eye of traditional strategy games makes positioning all the more important as you assess the situation and look around to spy enemies and upgrades.

Cementing the connection to Intelligent Systems’ previous games, players can use any of the Fire Emblem Amiibos (Marth, Lucina, Robin, and Ike) to add those characters to their squad. Keeping with the series’ tradition of permadeath, these characters, unlike the game’s main cast, cannot be revived if they fall during battle. They can, however, be added back into the squad once combat is over. Their equipment also cannot be altered.

Wheaton earned his place in the Geek pantheon by playing the young Ensign Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Subsequently he has become ensconced as a pillar of the Los Angeles geek community as an actor, writer, voice actor, and host. He regularly collaborates with college roommate and Nerdist host Chris Hardwick, and co-runs the Geek and Sundry YouTube channel with Felicia Day.

His gaming credentials run deep. As part of Geek and Sundry, Wheaton hosts the TableTop series in which he plays board games with various geek celebrities. He has also voice acted in numerous games, including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Fallout: New Vegas, and most recently There Came an Echo.

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. arrives exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS on March 13, 2015.

Is Manor Lords multiplayer or co-op?

You can easily lose hours designing your village and appeasing your citizens in Manor Lords all by yourself. There are so many different avenues to achieve victory, but the only competition or help you can normally find is in the form of NPCs. Other factions around the map can be helpful or harmful depending on how you play, but what if you wanted to team up with a friend to combine resources, or perhaps compete to see who can crush the other first? Many strategy and city builders thrive on multiplayer components, but does Manor Lords offer those same modes? Make sure you know the answer before making your purchase if that's your intention.
Is there multiplayer or co-op in Manor Lords?
To cut to the chase, the answer is no. Manor Lords is a purely single-player experience through and through. There are no cooperative or competitive modes in the game at all, so there's no way to interact with anyone else either on PC or console. This game was just released out of early access, and there is plenty of content on the way, however, we regret to inform you that multiplayer is not in the plans for the time being.

One developer took to the Steam forums to release an FAQ on the game. One question specifically asked if there is any multiplayer or cooperative gameplay in the game. The response said that "he focus is on a refined single-player experience, with no multiplayer or cooperative modes planned at the moment."

How to get a gun
To give yourself a gun in Another Crab's Treasure, head over to the Settings menu. Navigate to Assist Mode at the bottom of the menu, then scroll to the bottom once more to a setting called Give Kril a Gun. Toggle this on, then back out and resume your game to find that Kril now has a massive pistol on his back in place of a shell.

This new gun on your back provides you with more than just a funny visual, though -- it actually allows you to shoot and kill any enemy in a single hit, nearly eliminating all of the challenge from the game. Additionally, if you're after trophies or achievements, the first time you shoot a crab with the gun will also unlock "This Kills the Crab."
