In Colbert’s Twitter announcement, he named the actor, but jokingly requested that his followers make sure Clooney is aware of the plan.

Needless to say, many Twitter responses to the A-list movie star from fans followed. They’re presumably unnecessary since Colbert has obviously got people who can call Clooney’s people, but, as per Colbert’s usual online savvy, the request was a smart way to get people talking. We expect Clooney to be on the couch (or whatever furniture is on The Late Show‘s new set) come September, but then again, with Colbert, it’s hard to know for sure.
Leading up to his first episode of The Late Show, Colbert’s been creating buzz in a variety of fun ways. His recent lunch series was a very unique way to “get to know [his] audience just a little bit better,” and for fans to get an idea of what to expect from his new gig. (Answer: Insanity.) Over five brown bag lunches in a cubicle that obviously wasn’t his real office, the late night TV host built a story line that just got more outlandish as the week went on. In fact, if you haven’t seen it yet, we’d bet that watching the series would quite possibly be the strangest six-ish minutes you’ve spent in quite some time — there’s an apocalypse scenario, for starters.
Colbert’s Late Show is the next iteration of the original show that featured host David Letterman, whose last episode aired in May 2015. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premieres on Sept. 8 at 11:35/10:35 c on CBS.
