Five games in the Assassin’s Creed series now available via PlayStation Now

Since the launch of Sony’s PlayStation Now game streaming service, new games have been added, but maybe not as fast as customers of the service had hoped. Now the service is getting a major injection of new games, which will certainly be welcome, at least to fans of open world games set across various points in history.

Five games from the Assassin’s Creed series are coming to PlayStation Now, Sony announced yesterday on the PlayStation Blog. With the upcoming launch of the latest game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate looming ever closer, Ubisoft is looking to remind gamers why they liked the series in the first place.

The games included are the PlayStation 3 versions Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, and Assassin’s Creed III. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag isn’t included, due either to the game being too recent or the fact that it was released on both the PS3 and PS4. Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD and last year’s Assassin’s Creed Rogue are also absent.

Ubisoft is no stranger to PlayStation Now. Several of the publisher’s games are already available through the service including Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell: Blacklist the Prince of Persia Trilogy, the Call of Juarez games, and both entries in the Rainbow Six: Vegas series.

This is the only way for those who only own a PS4 to play these games, since the console lacks backward compatibility. That these games are heading to PlayStation Now suggests that the games won’t be seeing the re-release treatment that many other games from the last generation are seeing these days.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is set in 1868 London, and stars twins Jabob and Evie Frye — a first for the series. The game will be released on October 23 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC release coming November 19.

PlayStation VR2 production reportedly paused by Sony

Sony is reportedly pausing production of the PlayStation VR2 headsets because it has a backlog of unsold headsets.

This report comes from Bloomberg, which claims that PSVR2 sales have slowed every quarter since its February 2023 release, causing stocks of the device to build up. It says Sony has produced 2 million headsets but reportedly hasn't sold through them yet. As a result, it's apparently pausing the production on new units until it works through some of that backlog, according to Bloomberg's anonymous sources.
