Calling it his most visionary film, Tarantino ponders another Kill Bill sequel

Quentin Tarantino Interview | The Hateful Eight, Television, And Police Brutality
Quentin Tarantino said there is “a definite possibility” that he will make a third Kill Bill movie. During an interview on Web series What The Flick!? about his newest film, The Hateful Eight, Tarantino told film critic Ben Mankiewicz that making Kill Bill 3 could be in the cards, though the idea still falls “short of being a probability.”

Tarantino said his plan for a new story set in the Kill Bill universe, accounts for the time that’s passed between the first two films and the third. In fact, this hypothetical return was long-planned: Tarantino said in 2009 that he would return to the franchise after at least 10 years. Kill Bill: Volume 2 was released in 2004.

Though he didn’t elaborate on his story idea, one thing is clear; Kill Bill 3 would definitely see the return of the series’ hero, Beatrix Kiddo.

“I put the character of Beatrix Kiddo through a lot. And so I wanted her to have this much time for peace. To have some time with her daughter, and not have to be on the genre machine; she could enjoy her life for awhile.”

Tarantino also said he’d like to return to the world of Kill Bill because it’s his most visually minded movie.

“I think Kill Bill is pretty much, hands-down, probably my most visionary movie,” he said. “Insofar as I really went beyond the Pulp Fiction stuff to create a world that really doesn’t exist … That is probably my most visionary cinematic contribution. It would be nice to go back to a visceral world that’s not about the words anymore.”

Separately, Tarantino also said that, based on his recent work, he sees himself transitioning to “writing novels and writing plays,” in addition to (or maybe even instead of) writing screenplays.

“Since [Kill Bill], my work has taken a turn towards the literary,” he said. “It’s gotten denser and denser, with [The Hateful Eight] probably being the densest of the group. And that seems like where I’m going to be going too.”

If you can’t bear to sit through the whole interview, jump to the 57-minute mark to get right to the Kill Bill section.
