Ascendance is the second DLC expansion for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, set to arrive on March 31 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Release on other platforms will follow.

The DLC adds four new multiplayer maps, designed to push your exo abilities to their tactical limits.

  • Perplex is a tight, vertical map centered around a five-story modular apartment complex in Sydney. The close quarters interior will force intense firefights, and construction drones arrive mid-match to mix up the landscape.
  • Site 244 stretches the game’s near-future sci-fi even further with a crashed alien spacecraft under the shadow of Mount Rushmore. Crack open alien spore pods for an instant boost to your perks and exo abilities.
  • Climate is set in a lush, climate-controlled, utopian garden. The serene setting of islands and rivers contrasts sharply with the frenetic combat its close confines encourage.
  • Chop Shop is a dense, industrial black market exoskeleton facility. The map-based scorestreak allows you to take control of a powerful turret that can change the tide of battle.

Ascendance also introduces a new ability to the exoskeletal toolkit, the brutal Exo Grapple. This rush ability doubles as rapid transport to key strategic spots or a nasty takedown for anyone that gets too close. A new playlist introduces the ability to multiplayer on Ascendance maps. A number of new weapons are also in the mix, like an OHM directed energy light machine gun/shotgun hybrid.

The Exo Zombies saga also continues with a new episode called Infected. The all-star cast (John Malkovich, Bill Paxton, Rose McGowan, and Jon Bernthal) from episode one returns to continue their struggle for survival. Set on the outskirts of an Atlas facility, the new episode adds a host of new traps and weapons to take on the new undead threats you will encounter.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Ascendance will be available on Xbox Live March 31 for $15  alone or for $50 as part of the 4 DLC Season Pass bundle. A release for Windows and PlayStation platforms will follow sometime thereafter.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is one step closer to release. Activision announced on Monday that the upcoming shooter will be hitting early access and open beta soon.

Players who preordered the game will get access to the early access open beta, which will run from August 30-September 4. That'll be followed by the regular open beta, which is open to everyone, from September 6-9. That means early access participants will have an extra day to try out the game ahead of release on October 25.

XDefiant finds a perfect middle ground between Call of Duty and Overwatch
Key art for the GSK faction for XDefiant.

When I first installed and started to play XDefiant, I didn’t think I’d like it. It looked like a random mishmash of Ubisoft IP. I didn’t think it would pull off the gameplay mix between hardcore military shooters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and hero shooters like Overwatch 2. Thankfully, XDefiant proved me very wrong, and I’ve had a hard time putting the game down since I started playing it ahead of Season 1.

The aspects of XDefiant that I thought would be weaknesses ended up being its strengths. It provides the power fantasy of a hero shooter while also delivering the engaging mission types and intricate gunplay of a military shooter. Gameplay customization doesn’t just happen on a hero or weapon level, but both at the same time. Although certain areas of XDefiant’s presentation could be much better, it’s a fun celebration of the Ubisoft franchises featured.

Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. The original Call of Duty set a new standard for first-person shooters, the series' online multiplayer work has been a must-play for gamers for nearly two decades, and Warzone has been one of the top battle royale experiences of late.

The series has covered a lot of warfare, from World War II to futuristic fictional wars in 2187, but never in any set order. Players have been bounced around from era to era with each annual COD release and even revisited the same conflicts multiple times from different perspectives through direct sequels and remakes.
