Fanatec Stand Locks Down Racing Wheels

Fanatec Stand Locks Down Racing Wheels

As anyone who has ever attempted to use one can attest, the main problem with realistic racing wheels and pedals for video games comes down to where to mount them. Nobody likes it when the table gets knocked over and the pedals skid out from underneath you in the heat of racing action. To that end, German peripheral developer Fanatec has developed its own solution: the RennSport Wheel Stand.

Designed for gamers who play console racing games from the couch or other seated positions, the Fanatec stand locks the steering wheel into a sturdy pedestal and the pedals onto a solid, non-slip base, allowing anxious racers to stomp, slam and spin their racing hardware ‘til heart’s content.  It’s steel and aluminum design also adjusts for the proper wheel angle, height, and pedal position.

“The RennSport Wheel Stand is a strategic product that solves the fundamental dilemma of the racing fan,” said Thomas Jackermeier, CEO of Fanatec’s parent company, Endor AG. “Our stand makes playing racing games with a racing wheel much more realistic and fun.”

The RennSport stand will debut in the United States for $130 on October 30. It will function with any of Fanatec’s own racing wheels, as well as those from Logitech and Microsoft. Fanatec also plans to release an optional accessory mount for shifters, and a racing seat, in mid 2009.

Saints Row developer Volition shut down by Embracer Group
The crew of the Saints Row reboot stands against a wall.

Volition -- the studio behind series like Saints Row -- has been shut down by Embracer Group.
Volition was first founded as Parallax Software in 1993, and made a name for itself over the past 30 years with series like Descent, Red Faction, and Saints Row. The studio has had many owners over that period, first being acquired by THQ before being sold to Plaion, which placed the developer under its Deep Silver label. Plaion and Deep Silver were then acquired by Embracer Group in 2018. Its most recent game, a reboot of Saints Row, was released last year to mixed reviews, which caused Embracer Group to then shift ownership of the studio over to Plaion's sister company, Gearbox Entertainment.
Saints Row is actually a PlayStation Plus Essential game this September, but the studio won't be around to see that because the decision has finally been made to close it. We first learned of this via a post on X from former Volition VFX artist Ryan Hoss; Volition went on to confirm the closure on LinkedIn.
"This past June, Embracer Group announced a restructuring program to strengthen Embracer and maintain its position as a leader in the video game industry," the message explained. "As part of that program, they evaluated strategic and operational goals and made the difficult decision to close Volition effective immediately. To help our team, we are working to provide job assistance and help smooth the transition for our Volition family members."
We reached out to Embracer Group for comment to see if it could provide more specific insight into why it chose to close Volition and will update this article when we get a response.

Bandai Namco's free-to-play Gundam FPS Gundam Evolution will shut down service this November.

Announced and released last year, Gundam Evolution is a team-based FPS inspired by games like Overwatch where players fight against each other while also completing objectives in teams of six. Digital Trends enjoyed the game, with reviewer DeAngelo Epps giving it a three-and-a-half star review and writing "Gundam Evolution brings enough unique twists to make it a true contender in the team hero shooter genre." Sadly, it doesn't seem that the free-to-play game could attract many players, with Steam Charts showing its 24-hour player count being just 657 players.
