Marvel’s new unnamed game stars Captain America and Black Panther

During the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase at D23, it was revealed that Skydance New Media’s new Marvel game includes four different superheroes in a World War II storyline. A teaser trailer showed Captain America and Black Panther, along with the soldier Gabriel Jones and Nanali from Wakanda. While the game has no title, it does have a tagline: “Four Heroes. Two Worlds. One War.”

In this game, players can assume the role of a young Steve Rodgers as Captain America. Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather, takes up the mantle of Black Panther during the World War II era. Gabriel Jones is a soldier and part of the Howling Commandos, a combat unit led by Rodgers. Nanali is a spy and leader of the Wakandan Spy Network.

The reveal trailer has some clues as to what the game could be about. A document with the Hydra symbol can be seen, so the group will certainly be antagonists in the game. In one of the last shots showing the four heroes, the Red Skull symbol can be seen in the background too.

Captain America’s shield is shown with claw marks, indicating that he and Black Panther will have some sort of encounter. That’s further teased when both Captain America and Gabriel are staring down Black Panther, who gets ready to pounce.

There were no other details announced about the game, including its actual name, what platforms it would be on, or any sort of release window. Whether it is a fully single-player game is unknown, but having a four-character ensemble cast could invite some co-op functionality as well, similar to that of Gotham Knights.

Children of the Sun turns sniping into a pitch-black puzzle game

I've played a whole lot of puzzle games in my life, but I can safely say that I've never played one as pitch-black as Children of the Sun.

Published by Devolver Digital, the newly announced Children of the Sun is an unholy hybrid between a shooter and a spatial reasoning game. It follows a lone wolf with a sniper rifle on a bloody quest for revenge against an evil religious cult. He has to take out swaths of zealots one bullet at a time. It's as dark as video game premises get, but one that's steeped in a clever genre fusion. After trying its challenging and bloody first levels, you can consider my curiosity morbidly piqued.
One shot
Children of the Sun wears its tone on its sleeve. Cutscenes between levels tease out a bloody cultist story in a wordless motion comic complete with raw illustrations. At first glance, it comes off as a little overly edgy. "Evil religious cult" has become one of gaming's most overused clichés at this point -- three of the last four games I've played this year use the trope. Fortunately, developer René Rother seems to be going for more of a tone piece than a deep story here. It nails that aspect, using dark visuals and oppressive electronic music that give the world a creeping sense of dread.

You need to try this new, adrenaline-fueled Xbox Game Pass highlight

It's going to be a busy year for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. The subscription service is expected to get an influx of high-profile games in 2024. Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 and Avowed are leading the charge, and there's a good chance that we'll see a lot of Activision Blizzard games on the service soon. What's always more exciting to me, though, are the games I've never heard of. Some of my favorite Game Pass titles over the year have been left-field indies that I learned about the very day they launched. Call them pleasant surprises.

Xbox Game Pass is already getting one of those games this week. Go Mecha Ball is a new roguelike, twin-stick shooter hybrid that launches on January 25 for both PC and Xbox Game Pass. It's a wildly creative little action game that makes it the kind of Game Pass curiosity that keeps me subscribed to the service.
