Xbox Game Pass adds Need for Speed, drops Monster Hunter

The next game lineup for Xbox Game Pass just got announced through the official Xbox news site. While the list includes some heavy hitters like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, the service is losing some major games at the end of the month as well.

Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service from Microsoft available on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10, and even Android devices thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming. It’s quickly become a big selling point for the Xbox brand, allowing gamers to access tons of games, both new and old, by paying a set premium.

Many different games will be making their way to the service between now and July 1. Worms Rumble, a multiplayer Worms game that launched on PS Plus, is available on cloud, console, and PC starting today.

On June 24, subscribers will have access to Iron Harvest (PC), Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered (console and PC), and Prodeus (PC). Five more games will hit the service on July 1: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (cloud), Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling (cloud, console, and PC), Gang Beasts (cloud, console, and PC), Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars (cloud, console, and PC), and Limbo (cloud, console, and PC).

While new games are coming, a few will be leaving Xbox Game Pass on June 30, including Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, Mistover, Monster Hunter World, Out of the Park Baseball 21, The Outer Wilds, Soulcalibur VI, and The Messenger. As always, subscribers can opt to buy those games and receive a 20% discount.

You need to play this underrated zombie shooter before it leaves Xbox Game Pass

All of us have gaming opinions that go against the grain or zeitgeist around certain titles. Oftentimes, it’s because your personal opinion on a title is negative -- I was like that with Sonic Frontiers -- but it can go in a more positive direction. For me, a game I’m a very positive outlier on is Back 4 Blood, a Left 4 Dead successor developed by Turtle Rock Studios and published by WB Games.

Although Back 4 Blood got decent reviews from critics, the public's general response toward the title is more mixed on platforms like Steam. Fewer people are playing it than Left 4 Dead 2 on PC at this point. I've always loved this game, as I enjoy the variance and replay value it introduces, as also think the different playable characters and level design make this one of the most enjoyable co-op shooters of the past several years.

Xbox Game Pass loses some horror greats, but gains a kid-friendly racing game

We've learned what games will come to Xbox Game Pass over the first half of this April, and leading the batch is Lego 2K Drive, a Lego racing game that's a solid alternative to the Forza Horizon games that are also available on Microsoft's subscription service.

Lego 2K Drive was released in May 2023 and is an enjoyable racing game where players can build their own Lego vehicles and race throughout several open worlds. It found the middle ground between the likes of Mario Kart and Forza Horizon and thrives in that space, even if the microtransactions can be a little aggressive for a game aimed at children. Playground Games has not yet confirmed if another Forza Horizon game is in the works at this time, so Xbox fans can play this game to fill that void until a new one is announced.
