Aperion Audio unveils the Aperion Verus Forte home theater speakers

The Verus Forte was engineered from the start for highly accurate sound reproduction that immerses movie and music lovers into a performance.

“We worked to produce uncolored, authentic sound in a small form-factor speaker by achieving a flat frequency response, a power response that slowly and evenly rolls off toward the highs and the lowest possible distortion,” says Ken Humphreys, Aperion’s lead speaker engineer and a 25-year-veteran of speaker and component design for the audio industry’s most respected brands. “The Axially Stabilized Radiator tweeter we developed specifically for the Verus family handles a range beneath most tweeters, supporting the mid-range driver so the mid-high frequencies are as crystal clear as those at the top of the range.”

Bose SoundLink Home is a small and sleek portable speaker
Bose SoundLink Home.

Bose has added another Bluetooth speaker to its SoundLink lineup of portables. The SoundLink Home Speaker is a sleek and slender unit that doubles as a speakerphone and can be stereo-paired with a second SoundLink Home for more immersive sound. It can be ordered starting October 1, in Light Silver or Cool Gray, for $219. If you live in China, there's also a "Warm Wood" option. For now, the speaker is being sold exclusively through Bose's website.

Unlike Bose's other SoundLink speakers, the SoundLink Home is intended as an app-free experience -- just power up the speaker and pair it with your favorite smartphone. Actually, with Bluetooth Multipoint, you can pair it to two phones simultaneously -- but you'll have to referee the fights between the phone owners.

Altec Lansing HydraMini waterproof Bluetooth speaker outside with pack

There's something to be said for quaint, accessible products, that do precisely as advertised. No, you're not looking at them to do anything particularly special, but if they get the job done, well, that makes everyone happy, right? That's precisely how I would describe the Altec Lansing HydraMini waterproof Bluetooth speaker that's available at a discount today at Target. Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, it offers a wireless range of up to 100 feet. The IP67 rating means it can withstand the elements, the battery lasts for up to six hours on a single charge, and music sounds great playing through this thing. It sounds much better than most phone speakers, anyway. Normally $20, it's yours today for only $16, saving you about $4. Not a huge discount, but enough to make it count.

Why buy this Altec Lansing HydraMini waterproof Bluetooth speaker?
Look, I'll be perfectly honest. If you're an audiophile and you want your music, podcast, or audio streams to sound immaculate, this is not the way to go. But if you're looking for an affordable and capable speaker you can bring with you anywhere, it's a good choice. Bring it beachside, out by the pool, in your backyard, heck, even in your shower to jam out. The IP67 water-resistance rating means it can withstand exposure to the elements, and the rugged design can take a beating.
