Apple’s Black Friday surprise is a gift card worth up to $150

Apple is getting into the spirit of the holidays this year with its own Black Friday deal. It teased us earlier in the week, without revealing any details, only that the Apple Watch would likely be included in the promotion. Apple has now lifted the lid on its Black Friday surprise, and it’s giving a gift card out with almost each product purchased from its online store today.

The value of the gift card varies depending on what device you end up buying, but it does include the aforementioned Apple Watch, along with the iPhone, iPad, Apple Mac computers, and the Apple TV. If you’ve been tempted by one of these already, then the gift card is a pleasant bonus. However, as with all promotions like this, the more you spend, the higher the card’s value will be.

If the new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus is on your list, then you’re out of luck here, because Apple’s only giving a $50 gift card with the iPhone SE, the iPhone 6S, and the iPhone 6S Plus. These are the SIM-free models, purchased without a contract, and cost from $400, $550, and $650 respectively, depending on the storage capacity you select.

It’s a similar situation with the Apple Watch. Only the Series 1 models — that’s the one without GPS and water-resistance — are included in the promotion. There are six models available, with either the silver, gold, or space gray case and various strap colors, all at either $270 or $300, unless you decide to customize them at checkout. A $25 gift card will be included with your Watch.

The Apple TV starts at $150, and includes a $25 gift card. This is at least the latest version of the set top box, complete with the excellent touch sensitive remote, and Siri to help out. Spend $200, and you get 64GB of internal storage, twice that of the lower cost version.

Buying an Apple Mac computer will get you the gift card worth $150, the highest available value in the company’s Black Friday deal. Don’t go looking for a model with the new Touch Bar though, as it’s not included, but you can still pick up a MacBook, a 13-inch or 15-inch MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air, an iMac, or a Mac Pro. Prices vary greatly, depending on spec, with the cheapest MacBook Air costing $1,000, all the way up to the $3,000 Mac Pro.

The deals are live in Apple’s online store now, and are also available in the U.K., where gift card values range from 20 British pounds up to 120 British pounds.
