Roughly one year ago, Motorola introduced the Droid Maxx and Droid Mini. The latest in the Verizon-exclusive Droid smartphones, they focused on attaining strong battery life and strong specifications in a small package, respectively. Now, according to Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, Motorola is prepping follow-ups to both smartphones.

According to Blass, the Abbagoochie and Valocia are the next handsets in the Droid Maxx and Droid Mini lines, respectively. Fun fact: the “abbagoochie” is a myth that arose roughly a decade and a half ago in West Virginia. Both are reportedly powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processors, though other details weren’t revealed.

It would make sense for Motorola to put out successors to the Droid Maxx and Droid Mini, so long as Motorola adheres to the yearly practice of putting out new smartphones that manufacturers follow nowadays. Even so, the new models will likely be exclusive to Verizon, much like every Droid smartphone released to date.

Motorola’s new Android phone looks amazing, but there’s a catch
motorola edge 50 Pro rear shell.

Earlier today, Motorola introduced a new premium phone in the Edge series, and from the looks of it, this could be one of the most value-centric phones of 2024. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which flaunts a fresh design language, marked its arrival in the Indian market with a price tag of roughly $385. For a limited spell, it will be sold at approximately $335, which is nothing short of stunning.

At that asking price, you won’t find a phone in the U.S. market that can match the hardware prowess and the fine looks of Motorola’s latest phone. We are talking about sleek curved glass aesthetics, a metallic frame, and a vegan leather finish available in a beautiful lavender shade.

We're a long way from when Motorola ruled the mobile world, and these days, the company finds itself being eclipsed by smartphones from Samsung, Apple, and Google. Motorola has been particularly active in the foldable and budget ranges, but it's also created some great flagships recently — specifically ones you may not have heard too much about. Let's end that ignorance now; here are the best Motorola smartphones you can buy in 2024, with options for every budget.

Motorola is ruining cheap Android phones
Two Moto G 5G 2023 smartphones lying on top of each other.

Not that long ago, Motorola was the champion of cheap Android phones. Budget Motorola phones were well-made, thoughtfully designed, and among the best in their class. I've lost track of how many Moto phones I recommended to friends and family over the years because, for a while, that was the thing to do.

Fast-forward to 2024, and Motorola has found itself in the exact opposite position. Today, Motorola's budget Android phones are plagued with bad hardware, embarrassing software support, and endless amounts of bloatware. It's a very different Motorola from the one we had a few years ago, and I don't like it one bit.
The day Motorola changed everything
