New DC League of Super-Pets trailer reveals the real villain

Due to some recent release date shuffling, the animated film DC League of Super-Pets won’t be premiering later this month as originally intended. Perhaps in part to tide fans over, Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the kid-friendly superhero movie. In the latest footage, Krypto (Dwayne Johnson) loves his life with Clark Kent/Superman (John Krasinski). But he’s much less enthusiastic about the love of Clark’s life, Lois Lane. Unfortunately for Krypto, the good times aren’t going to last.

When Marc Maron was cast as Lex Luthor, it was assumed that he would be the main bad guy in the film. However, the latest trailer reveals that the primary villain is actually Lulu (Kate McKinnon), a super intelligent and very tiny guinea pig. Our guess is that Lulu is Lex’s pet, because she has access to Kryptonite, which is more than enough to capture Superman. And with the Man of Steel out of the way, the Justice League will also fall to Lulu’s power.

Fortunately for both Krypto and the heroes, a group of shelter animals has been gifted with superpowers of their own. The trailer reveals how PB the pig gained her size-altering ability, while Merton the turtle picked up Flash-like speed, and Chip the squirrel took on electricity powers. As for Ace, the future Bat-hound has strength to rival Krypto, as well as invulnerability.

Kevin Hart co-stars as Ace the Bat-Hound, with Vanessa Bayer as PB, Natasha Lyonne as Merton, Diego Luna as Chip, and Keanu Reeves as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Thomas Middleditch, Ben Schwartz, and Jameela Jamil will also have parts in the film, but their specific characters haven’t been announced yet.

Jared Stern directed the film from a script he co-wrote with John Whittington. DC League of Super-Pets will hit theaters on Friday, July 29.

An antihero returns in the first trailer for Black Adam

Have you ever wondered why Dwayne Johnson has dedicated over a decade of his life to bringing Black Adam to the big screen? As originally conceived, Black Adam was just a villain who was the darker reflection of Shazam (back when he was still allowed to be called Captain Marvel). Within the last two decades, Black Adam's portrayal in the comics has shifted from an unrepentant bad guy to an antihero who isn't truly evil. But it's a real stretch to call him a good guy.

The first trailer for Black Adam shows off some of the title character's impressive powers after he is freed in modern times. This may be one of the reasons why Johnson was so drawn to him. Black Adam has Superman-level strength, and no desire to hold back. The Man of Steel may prove to be more powerful, but Black Adam's ruthless streak may place him on a higher plateau. As the film's tagline says, "The hierarchy of the DC Universe is about to change."

Keanu Reeves is Batman in DC League of Super-Pets trailer

This weekend, movie theaters belonged to The Batman as Robert Pattinson stepped into the title role to make it his own. However, he's not the only Batman in the multiverse, or even the only Batman that will make his debut this year. Ahead of the film, Warner Bros. Pictures premiered a new trailer for the kid-friendly stand-alone animated film DC League of Super-Pets. And in this footage, the Dark Knight was voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves.

Reeves is best known for his leading roles in The Matrix and John Wick films. He might be a little too old to pull off a live-action Batman, but in animation, Reeves gets to embrace the two sides of the Caped Crusader. He's the grim avenger of the night, as well as a softer hero with a heart who can't resist the charms of his new pet, Ace the Bat-Hound.
