3 horror movies on Freevee you should watch this Halloween

While Amazon Freevee does have an impressive lineup of action movies and dramas, its horror lineup is largely underwhelming. Who knew that Gingerdead Man vs. Evil Bong was a real movie? Or that Evil Bong had at least two movies of her own, both of which are on Freevee if you dare to watch them.

Those aren’t the kind of titles that we’ll ever recommend here at DT. Instead, we’ve chosen one of the most influential horror films of all time, Daniel Radcliffe’s escape from the shadow of Harry Potter, and the beginning of a modern werewolf trilogy. These are the three horror movies on Freevee that you should watch in October.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

Bryanston Distributing Company

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is what you might call “the granddaddy of slasher movies.” A lot of the modern horror tropes started here. In the summer of 1973, Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns), her brother, Franklin (Paul A. Partain), and their friends Jerry (Allen Danziger), Pam (Teri McMinn), and Kirk (William Vail) take an off-road trip to terror when they encounter Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen) and his deranged family of cannibals.

Some of Sally’s friends are lucky enough to die quickly rather than endure torture at the hands of Leatherface’s family. As for Sally herself, she needs to find a way to escape, or else her friends’ fates may seem preferable to her own.

Horns (2013)

Dimension Films

Daniel Radcliffe was looking for a way to separate himself from his Harry Potter persona, and he found it in Horns. In this adaptation of Joe Hill’s original story, Radcliffe plays Ignatius “Ig” Perrish, a man accused of raping and killing the love of his life, Merrin Williams (Juno Temple). Even Ig’s family treats him like he’s guilty. But Ig’s life takes a turn for the bizarre when he wakes up with horns growing out of his head that give him supernatural abilities.

Ig uses the horns to make people give up their secrets, but it proves ineffective on his childhood friend, Lee Tourneau (Max Minghella), who can’t even see that Ig has horns. For everyone else, Ig’s powers are absolute. However, in his quest for revenge, Ig is losing his humanity and becoming something far more demonic.

Ginger Snaps (2000)

Motion International

The Ginger Snaps trilogy has proven to be popular among fans of the werewolf subgenre in horror. Of the three, the first film remains the best. Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) and her sister, Brigitte (Emily Perkins), are inseparable best friends in high school. Or at least they were until Ginger was bitten by a werewolf, which in turn triggered her own transformation into something more than human.

No matter how much Brigitte loves her sister, she’s powerless to stop Ginger from embracing her werewolf powers and newfound depravity. Even the sisters’ mutual friend, Sam (Kris Lemche), can’t help Brigitte when Ginger’s behavior turns lethal. And only one sister can survive their inevitable confrontation.
