Amazon’s tablet will be named the Kindle Fire

inviteAmazon is all set to announce its long-awaited Android tablet this Wednesday, a device that is projected to give the iPad the biggest run for its money yet. Now, TechCrunch is reporting the tablet is to be named the Kindle Fire.

Rumor has it the Kindle Fire (which doesn’t signal a discontinuation of the original eInk Kindles, don’t worry) resembles a much-improved BlackBerry PlayBook. As reported, it will run Android but Amazon is using its own skin that gives the software a unique experience and distinguish it from the host of other Android tablets. We’ll get a glimpse at the model this Wednesday, but the tablets won’t launch until November — just in time for the holiday shopping season and right on target with those original rumors.

Since everything is lining up quite nicely and in line with what we’ve heard about Amazon tablets since day one, we’re hedging bets that a 10-inch tablet announcement is in the foreseeable future. And this might be the one to hold out for: Rumor has it Amazon is simply trying to get a tablet in its lineup for holiday shopping as well as to steal some of the Apple iPhone thunder sure to come our way (right?!). We’ll know better Wednesday, as we’ll be at Amazon’s New York event announcing the launch of the Kindle Fire.

The 6 best tablets for watching movies in 2024
Two iPad Pro tablets next to each other against a black background. Both have Apple's Magic Keyboard case.

Tablets are incredibly versatile devices, allowing you to surf the web, check your emails, or play games without the need for a larger (and clunkier) laptop. But one of the most popular ways to use a tablet is as a screen for your favorite movies and TV shows. Since they're slim enough to pack into a backpack and light enough to prop up while laying in bed or on the couch, tablets are a great way to catch up on your favorite shows.

However, not all tablets are great for watching movies and TV shows. Some are built with lackluster displays that can't capture the nuances of important scenes, while others are cheap and unreliable – making them a poor long-term investment. That can make it difficult to shop for the best tablets for watching movies, as there are hundreds of products vying for your attention. But if you know where to look, it's easy to find a premium tablet that'll serve you well for years.

Why you should buy the 2021 Apple iPad
The ninth-generation Apple iPad, which was released in 2021, will be three years old in several months. However, it's still listed in our roundup of the best iPads as the best iPad on a budget, as it still offers great performance by today's standards with Apple's A13 Bionic chip that also powered the iPhone 11 series. The tablet also features a 10.2-inch Retina display with 2160 x 1620 resolution, for sharp details and vivid colors when you're browsing the internet, watching streaming shows, and playing mobile games.
