Apple allows porn, Playboy coming to iPad

playboy-magazine-pamela-andersonSophisticates across the world, you may rejoice. One of America’s classiest magazines, Playboy, will soon bare it all on the iPad, says Hugh Hefner, founder of the magazine. Every issue of the magazine, from 1953 to 2011, will be available and uncensored on the iPad in March, Hefner said in a series of tweets yesterday.

The news is an interesting reversal for Apple, which has previously sought to keep pornographic material off of its App Store. Last April, CEO Steve Jobs bluntly stated that if people want porn, they can go to Android. “….we do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone,” said Jobs. “Folks who want porn can buy and Android phone…You know, there’s a porn store for Android. You can download nothing but porn. You can download porn, your kids can download porn. That’s a place we don’t want to go – so we’re not going to go there.”

Even Playboy’s official iPhone app has no full frontal nudity, which makes us wonder how Playboy made this deal. Apple must be eager to boost its syndicated content on the iPad. The hardware maker is also working with News Corp. to launch an iPad-only daily newspaper called The Daily, though the launch was recently delayed.

Some would argue that Playboy is not considered pornographic, but that is another debate for another time. Apple’s reversal is good for Playboy, which has seen its paper magazine business drop steadily for years now. Recently, Hugh Hefner has made bold moves to buy out all remaining stock in Playboy and privately own the company again. He hopes to expand the reach of the magazine and brand through new opportunities.

UPDATE 6:09 pm PST: Forbes investigated and found that Mr. Hefner may be confused. A Web version of Playboy will be available uncensored on the device, but the Playboy iPad app will be censored. Full story here.

Woman Using 2021 iPad Pro 11-inch

Apple's iPad is probably one of the most dominant tablets on the market, and that's no surprise, given that it makes some of the best tablets in the industry. Of course, that also makes iPads premium devices with premium prices, especially the best iPads, and if you're looking to pick one up, you'll want to get a deal on them. While there are a lot of great tablet deals you can take advantage of, another good option is to go for refurbished iPad deals. Not only does that decrease the cost significantly, but it's also more environmentally friendly since it reduces e-waste, and most of these refurbished Apple deals come with some form of guarantee.
Apple iPad (2018) — from $98

When this iPad model came out in 2018 it was hard to imagine it ever being available for just $119. It has a 9.7-inch Retina display that makes it good for browsing the web and watching movies. It only comes with 32GB of storage space, but this isn’t an iPad for loading up with modern apps and media anyhow. It would be a good starter iPad for the kids, or a good way to take the internet with you when you travel. This iPad deal includes a 1-year warranty and free 30-day returns.

The new iPad Pro just surprised everyone
The iPad Pro (2024) during JerryRigEverything's bend test.

When a new iPad is released, it is common for organizations to conduct bend durability tests. Recently, JerryRigEverything, AppleTrack, and MobileReviewEh were the first to perform these tests on both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro (2024). The results were positive, which is especially surprising given how thin both tablets are.

The two new iPad Pro models, introduced earlier this month, are the thinnest yet. The new 11-inch model has a depth of just 0.21 inches, compared to 0.23 inches for the 2022 model. Meanwhile, the 13-inch version is just 0.20 inches in depth, compared to 0.25 inches for the sixth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Only recently announced, the Apple iPad Air 11-inch M2 is sure to be something special. We’ve compared the iPad Air (2024) with the iPad Air (2022) to see why it’s so great. Effectively, the killer feature here is that it has the Apple M2 chip we’ve seen in more recent MacBooks compared to the older M1 chipset. That makes it a great option for power users who want all the power possible from one of the best tablets.
