Apple Kills South Park iPhone App

Apple Kills South Park iPhone App

The company has refused to allow an iPhone app that streams South Park episodes, citing concerns over "potentially offensive" content.

What’s fit for Comedy Central is not always fit for the tender ears of iPhone users. The creators of South Park found this out recently, when Apple denied their application for a South Park iPhone application that would stream clips of the show to users’ phones.

According to a post made to the South Park Studios news blog on Tuesday, the team has made “a couple” attempts to get the application approved by Apple since it was first announced back in October, both of which were unsuccessful. Unlike many other denied iPhone apps, Apple’s reasoning had nothing to do with the South Park app trampling its own apps or endangering the phone – the material was just too risqué.

“According to Apple, the content was ‘potentially offensive,’” the team writes. “But Apple did admit that the standards would evolve, citing that when iTunes first launched it didn’t sell any music with explicit lyrics.”

While fans may hold out hope for an eventual reprieve from Apple’s moral police on the show, in the mean time, it’s creators aren’t so optimistic. “At this point, we are sad to say, the app is dead in the water. Sorry, South Park fans.”
