Coming soon: Update Twitter from your Facebook

link-facebook-twitterYesterday Facebook announced the Subscribe button, a game-changing new feature that makes following your friends–and non-friends–very different. It’s a Twitter-like tool, where you can follow the posts of people whether or not they do the same in return. Up until now, you’ve had to be a friend of someone on Facebook in order to view their Status Updates in your own feed.

And that’s not the only Twitter-related update Facebook issues yesterday. Facebook says you will be able to link your Twitter and Facebook by doing the following:

  1. Go to facebook.com/twitter
  2. Link your profile or Page to your Twitter account.

Once you link your accounts, your Twitter account will be updated every time you post a public update to Facebook. Note: Only posts whose privacy you set to Public using your inline controls are eligible for this.

No word yet on how the character limit will work with posts over 140 characters. Twitter users have been able to push their tweets from the site for some time now, using a variety of apps, but Facebook hasn’t been interested in making that a two-way relationship. The site is notoriously difficult to work with when it comes to pushing its users’ information to another site, so does this mean the flood gates are open? Will we see an application that allows you to pull your contacts on over to Google+? Unlikely, but Twitter-update integration seems like a natural feature to add, and one users should appreciate the convenience of. A Facebook rep tells TechCrunch the new addition should be available within the next week.
