These extra data points are labelled “Happiness Factors” by Routehappy, the idea being that you’ll be a lot happier if you can get online during your next long-haul flight. The company already partners with a number of different firms across the globe, including Expedia and Virgin Atlantic, so Google isn’t the only one with access to its database.
“We know people are looking for more information about the flights they’re taking before they buy, so integrating Routehappy Happiness Factors is a great addition to Google Flights,” said Google’s Gianni Marostica in a press statement. “Now even more people have access to comprehensive flight amenity data and useful flight search information.”
The data compiled by Routehappy covers aircraft model, seat type, cabin layout, integrated entertainment, power sockets, Wi-Fi provision and fresh food availability, though not all of this information will show up on your next Google flight search.
It’s been a long, hard struggle to get Internet connectivity on airplanes, with many early systems offering slow connection speeds at high prices. However, there are signs that we’ve reached some kind of tipping point, with many companies announcing upgraded Wi-Fi availability over the past 12 months. Thanks to Google’s new deal with Routehappy, you can find the flights that offer the best broadband for your buck.
