It has been a busy week, and you may be reading this on your shiny new iPhone 7 or 7 Plus. If you’re not drowning your spacious internal storage with iMessage apps and stickers, here are a few apps we’ve hunted down from the past week that are worth a download.

Oz: Broken Kingdom

Oz: Broken Kingdom is a role-playing game that has you teaming up with the familiar Tin Man, Lion, Scarecrow, and a new character called Ophelia Shen to restore the kingdom of Oz to its former glory. The combat is turn-based and features excellent graphics. You can choose to “save the realm,” or you could jump in the “Arenas of Oz” to fight other players to climb up the leaderboards.

Cardboard Camera

Google’s Cardboard Camera has finally come to iOS. It’s a neat app if you have a Google Cardboard, or any mobile-oriented virtual reality headset lying around. Cardboard Camera lets you take 360-degree photos and share them. Improved sharing features on both Android and iOS apps allow you to send a link to the 360-degree photo to anyone via any social platform, text, email, and more.

Sit With Us

Designed by high-schooler Natalie Hampton, Sit With Us attempts to help find students that end up sitting alone during lunch some company. Hampton made the app after she felt vulnerable and was bullied when she couldn’t find a group or people to sit with during lunch in middle school. The app lets students become “ambassadors” that can post open lunch events, signaling that anyone can sit with them.

Dependn’

Dependn’ wants to help curb your addiction, whether it’s alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, antidepressants, sex, video games, and more. You can track multiple addictions at the same time and add an “intensity” level for each. You can then export this data to your doctor or specialist, but only if you want to share it with him or her. The iOS app offers an Apple Watch integration.

Coding Confessional

This one’s for all you coders out there. Need a place to anonymously post your coding-related practices and thoughts? Coding Confessional is the app for you. The community can absolve or condemn you of your sin, but the app in a way does offer some useful advice from others in the programming community.

The best Mint alternatives: 10 great budgeting apps for 2024

Digital products, despite their popularity, can also be discontinued. One such example is Mint, a personal finance application that has been helping users manage their money, budget, and pay bills since 2007. Unfortunately, Mint is shutting down.

However, there are many other similar apps available in the market that are worth considering. Moreover, like Mint, many of these alternatives are also free. These apps are available on Android and iOS and work on devices like the Google Pixel 8 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Most are among the best personal finance apps of 2023.
When is Mint shutting down?
Intuit, which has owned Mint since 2009, announced in November 2023 that it was discontinuing the Mint website and mobile apps. On January 1, 2024, Mint will shut down and go offline for good.
Why is Mint going away?
According to Mint's parent company, Intuit, the Mint app is going away so its features can be consolidated into the Credit Karma app (which Intuit also owns). In a statement sent to The Verge, a Credit Karma spokesperson said, "We’re excited to welcome all Intuit Mint users to join Intuit Credit Karma where they will have access to Credit Karma’s suite of products, features, tools and services."

17 iPhone apps I couldn’t live without in 2023

Though I check out and review a variety of smartphones, including Android phones, my primary device is my iPhone 15 Pro. Not only is it my main device because I like the hardware, but I’m quite vested in the Apple ecosystem — especially when it comes to apps from the App Store.

As you can guess, my entire life is pretty much accessible on my iPhone. Not just photos and messages, but also all of the apps I use daily. And while there's no shortage of great iPhone apps, but these are the ones I couldn't live without in 2023.

Google just redesigned one of its biggest apps, and it’s bad

Google Chat — Google's business-oriented messaging platform that is similar to Slack and Microsoft Teams — just got a big update for its Android and iOS apps. The update dramatically changes how you navigate the app and, uh, well, it sure is something.

Google Chat's mobile app used to be broken up into two pages: Chat (direct messages between you and other users) and Spaces (larger chat rooms for multiple people). As with most apps, you switched between these with a navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.
