Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has looked a lot better than he does in new ‘Logan’ pic

Social media has become the best place to get an early peek at Logan, director James Mangold’s upcoming follow-up to 2013’s The Wolverine, which is expected to be the final bow for Hugh Jackman as the clawed mutant. That trend continued this week with a series of photos from the set of the film, including Wednesday’s first look at Hugh Jackman as a much older version of the film’s title character.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Logan is set in the year 2024 and will feature a version of Wolverine who’s well past his prime and facing the ravages of a mutant healing factor that doesn’t work as well as it once did — and the new photo of Jackman in character certainly doesn’t do anything to contradict that information.

The photo was posted by Mangold on Twitter, where the filmmaker has been posting various images from the set of the film.

Directed by Mangold from a script by David James Kelly (Straw Man) and Michael Green (Green Lantern), Logan features Jackman once again as the mutant Wolverine, and also brings back Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier. Narcos actor Boyd Holbrook will also play a featured role in the film, possibly as recurring X-Men foe Donald Pierce, the leader of an anti-mutant group known as The Reavers.

Little is certain about the plot of Logan at this point, but the powerful mutant known as Mr. Sinister is also expected to play a major role in the film, along with his mysterious organization Essex Corp., which was featured in a post-credits scene in X-Men: Apocalypse. The focus of the first promotional image for the film — featuring Wolverine holding a child’s hand — has also led to speculation that the film could feature the debut of X-23, the young girl cloned from Wolverine in the Marvel comics.

Logan is scheduled to hit theaters March 3, 2017.

Everything leaving Netflix in May 2024

Netflix is always at its best when it has a robust lineup of movies from other studios to go along with its original films. But in May, Netflix is going to lose a lot of great flicks, because several of its movies on loan from rival studios are going back home. This month, that includes L.A. Confidential, the first four Hunger Games movies, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and even Where the Crawdads Sing, which enjoyed a nearly 18-month run on Netflix following its theatrical release.

Fox's short-lived sitcom The Mick is also departing Netflix, which tends to shed movies more often than it does shows. But there is an upside to this month's content migration: May has a full 31 days and a holiday weekend. That should go a long way toward helping plan your movie nights so you can catch these films and shows before they depart.

May is one of the longest months of the year, and Hulu subscribers may need all 31 days to catch some of their favorite movies before they leave at the end of the month. The brilliant satire Thank You For Smoking, the intense noir thriller L.A. Confidential, The Wrestler, Taken, Salt, Life of Pi, Scarface, and more are all on their way out of the door. Some of them have gone through this cycle before and come back to Hulu. But there's no guarantee that you'll see them again on this streaming service.

The only drama series debuting in May is Maryland, a new British series that is making its American premiere on PBS. And if that's not enough drama for you, Great Performances will have feature new productions of Hamlet and Purlie Victorious.

Throughout the month, PBS will air multiple news, nature, and investigative reports as specials and standalone episodes. Near the end of May, music lovers can look forward to the National Memorial Day Concert 2024 and a tribute to the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein.
