Iomega Kicks Off Desktop Backup Autoloader

Iomega yesterday announced the availability of a new desktop backup autoloader targeted towards the needs of small businesses. The new REV Loader 280 is priced at around $1,000.

The REV Loader 280, said Iomega, manages up to eight removable 35GB REV disks to provide access to up to 280GB of storage. It has a compact form factor of less than seven inches tall and five inches wide, connects to a server though a USB 2.0 interface and is bundled with a license for CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows.

Iomega claims the REV Loader 280 runs quietly and can deliver up to 25MB/sec of data transfer. Security features include password protection and encryption.

“The new Iomega REV Loader 280 is a breakthrough backup appliance that makes it easy and economical for a small business to safeguard its critical data,” said Tom Kampfer, President and Chief Operating Officer, Iomega Corporation, in a statement. “The REV Loader 280 delivers the speed and convenience of a hard drive with the advanced backup protection of removable media in an automated, ‘no-touch’ data protection solution. If disaster strikes and the server goes down, there’s no searching for the right backup disk.
