If you’re finding it a real struggle to pass the time before the second season of House of Cards arrives, Netflix has a treat in store for you: the streaming video platform has added a director’s commentary track to the first season, so you can re-immerse yourself in the world of Frank Underwood and his political scheming.
The commentary is a Netflix exclusive and doesn’t appear on the DVD or Blu-ray releases of the series. To get at it, open up the subtitle and alternate audio preferences dialog in the app. If Netflix is available in your country, then you can get at the director’s commentary.
Each episode is narrated by the director who shot it, giving viewers an insight into the creative recording process, and all six directors from the first season are involved: David Fincher, James Foley, Joel Schumacher, Charles McDougall, Carl Franklin and Allen Coulter, who all took on two episodes apiece.
As we’ve already reported, all 13 episodes of House of Cards season two will be available on Netflix from Feb 14. The second instalment arrives almost exactly a year after the first one, which went on to earn its fair share of critical acclaim and even an Emmy award. Netflix’s official blurb for the next chapter in the story suggests that not much has changed in the world of House of Cards:
“Reporter Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) is inching closer to the truth about Francis’ crimes. Billionaire presidential adviser Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution, and Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’ once private existence. The Underwoods must overcome these dangers — past and present — to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.”
