OS X Yosemite public beta could arrive sometime this month (Updated)

Update 7/23/14 10:26 a.m. ET: Apple will be releasing the OS X Yosemite Public Beta sometime on Thursday, July 24, according to reports.

While OS X Yosemite, the next version of Apple’s desktop operating system, isn’t due to be released until sometime this fall, the public could be getting a very good look at it quite soon. A report claims that Apple is preparing to release a public beta version of Yosemite sometime this month, though that’s no certainty.

That’s because the nature of software development dictates that unforeseen circumstances can arrive and force release dates to be adjusted, which happens often. Apple is reportedly polishing up the Yosemite public beta in an effort to maximize consumer enjoyment once it’s released. However, it’s possible that the release of the Yosemite public beta could be delayed to sometime early next month. Either way, it should arrive fairly soon.

Yosemite was first revealed at WWDC 14, which is Apple’s annual developer-focused get together. During the Yosemite-focused portion of the keynote presentation, Apple showed off numerous new features that will be coming to the next version of OS X. These include the ability to receive calls made to your iPhone from your Mac, an improved version of Spotlight, and much more. Like OS X Mavericks, which was released last October, Yosemite will be a free release.

Whether it’s released this month or next, we can’t wait to get our hands on the Yosemite public beta, and see if it delivers what it promises.

No, Intel isn’t blaming motherboard makers for instability issues

Over the past few days, there's been a firestorm online regarding a statement Intel made on the wave of instability issues facing high-end Intel CPUs. The original statement, which was shared with Igor's Lab and others, appears like Intel wiping its hands clean of the problem and placing blame on motherboard vendors, and several media outlets have ran with that exact story. That's not exactly what's going on.

In statements shared with both Tom's Hardware and AnandTech, Intel specifically says it doesn't intended to "ascribe blame to Intel's partners." Currently, it seems that some BIOS adjustments can fix the instability problems on high-end Intel CPUs, but the investigation with Intel and its motherboard partners is still ongoing.
