Want to visit Sony’s underwater store? You’ll need to learn how to dive

If you thought that Sony would simply stop its underwater antics at unboxing its Xperia Z3 smartphone underwater, you were wrong. Sure, it’s far from the only creative unboxing video out there, but you’ve likely never seen an underwater unboxing before. However, once you take a look at the recently-launched underwater Xperia Aquatech store, you won’t be able to deny Sony’s watery obsession.

The underwater adventure begins in Dubai, where the store is located. You need an escort to get to the store, which is located four meters under water. But before you can begin the dive, you’ll actually need to learn how to scuba. After the lessons are complete, you’ll be accompanied by experienced divers to the store.

There are two huge catches, though. For one, the store is only open to select individuals, which include contest winners, VIPs, and some media outlets. Secondly, and likely most critically, the store is only open for three days.

Funny enough, even if you’re equipped with the Xperia Z3, you’ll need to encase it in a waterproof container since it doesn’t work at depths of 4 meters. The Xperia Z3 and its siblings boast an IP68 rating, but that rating allows them to survive in water only up to 1.5 meters deep for half an hour. Even then, that only applies in fresh water, not the salt water in which the store is located.

The Xperia Aquatech store seems like a great marketing stunt for those in the Middle East, but we’ll stay on dry land for now.

The Honor Magic 6 RSR is my new favorite Android phone of 2024
Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
