The next chapter in developer Spike Chunsoft’s Zero Escape franchise is headed to the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita next year, offering fans closure following a cliffhanger ending featured in the previous series entry Virtue’s Last Reward.

While the future of the Zero Escape series was previously uncertain, publisher Aksys Games put fears to rest, announcing development of a sequel at the recently concluded Anime Expo event in Los Angeles.

The Zero Escape series launched in 2010 with the release of the Nintendo DS game 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors. Blending elements from the visual novel genre and “escape the room”-styled puzzlers, 999 featured a twisting storyline and a distinctive cast of characters. Guided by the whims of a murderous mastermind known as “Zero,” characters turned against one another in a series of taxing “Nonary Game” challenges, with deadly consequences for failure.

A direct sequel, Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward followed in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita, upping the narrative stakes with new characters and deadlier traps. Despite teasing a sequel during its conclusion, news of a Virtue’s Last Reward follow-up was scarce in the months after its release, leaving fans uncertain whether the series would see a finale up until this week’s announcement.

Series director Kotaro Uchikoshi returns for the tentatively-titled Zero Escape Volume 3, which is currently in the works for the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita. Publisher Aksys Games notes that the forthcoming sequel will feature returning series characters, voiced cinematics, and multiple endings depending on how players approach its story. The game will also offer both Japanese and English-language audio tracks.

Aksys additionally stated that Zero Escape Volume 3 will be available via the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, though a retail release has not been confirmed. Zero Escape Volume 3 is due to launch in the summer of 2016.

The Nintendo 3DS will live on, even if the handheld console was entirely overshadowed by the Nintendo Switch at E3 2019.

New Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser -- who landed the top job in April, when beloved CEO Reggie Fils-Aime retired -- reiterated that the company will continue to support the 3DS. In an interview with Time, Boswer said the focus at E3 2019 was on the Nintendo Switch, and that the company had no new Nintendo 3DS games to announce at the annual video game event. But that doesn't mean Nintendo is pulling the plug on the handheld console.

Is Manor Lords multiplayer or co-op?
A medieval market in Manor Lords.

You can easily lose hours designing your village and appeasing your citizens in Manor Lords all by yourself. There are so many different avenues to achieve victory, but the only competition or help you can normally find is in the form of NPCs. Other factions around the map can be helpful or harmful depending on how you play, but what if you wanted to team up with a friend to combine resources, or perhaps compete to see who can crush the other first? Many strategy and city builders thrive on multiplayer components, but does Manor Lords offer those same modes? Make sure you know the answer before making your purchase if that's your intention.
Is there multiplayer or co-op in Manor Lords?
To cut to the chase, the answer is no. Manor Lords is a purely single-player experience through and through. There are no cooperative or competitive modes in the game at all, so there's no way to interact with anyone else either on PC or console. This game was just released out of early access, and there is plenty of content on the way, however, we regret to inform you that multiplayer is not in the plans for the time being.

One developer took to the Steam forums to release an FAQ on the game. One question specifically asked if there is any multiplayer or cooperative gameplay in the game. The response said that "he focus is on a refined single-player experience, with no multiplayer or cooperative modes planned at the moment."
