Here’s what you’ll get in the Just Cause 3 collector’s edition

Video game collector’s editions tend to include a few cool shelf pieces that you’ll cherish for years to come, as well as a bunch of useless junk that will never leave the box. Square Enix has taken the initiative to make sure this is no longer the case, and the publisher has revealed the fan-voted items that will be included in the collector’s edition of Just Cause 3.

The Just Cause 3 collector’s edition’s “centerpiece” is a 15-inch replica of protagonist Rico’s grappling hook, and the $110 bundle also includes a 24×24 “poster map of the Mediterranean archipelago of Medici,” as well as a hardcover art book. Digital content appears to be limited to the “Weaponized Vehicle Pack.”

“Out of all the items, we offered, the grappling hook was by far the most popular,” said Square Enix senior product marketing manager Damian Garcia. This is especially interesting, considering that the grappling hook was absent from the promotional image that showed off potential items.

The final collector’s edition items were just a tiny portion of what Square Enix made available for voting back in March. Other potential items included diecast replica vehicles from the game (1:32 scale), a backpack, a “Rico diorama,” a steelbook, and my personal favorite: a destructible general statue and puzzle with a “magnetic satchel charge.”

This isn’t the first time Square Enix has given fans the chance to vote on collector’s edition items. Right now, you can vote on the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided collector’s edition, which could include a replica Adam Jensen bust statue, a metal sign, or even a lunch box. Oddly, Rise of the Tomb Raider, arguably the publisher’s biggest title this year, has no collector’s edition announced at this point, even though it releases before both Deus Ex and Just Cause 3.

Just Cause 3 arrives December 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Google executive ports Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour to iPhone and Mac using Claude

AI-powered game development has recently been blamed for flooding app stores with low-effort mobile games, but every now and then, the technology produces a far more interesting result. Google lead product and design executive Ammar Reshi says he used Fable 5 to port Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour to the iPhone and iPad.

This is not an emulator or a cloud-streamed version. According to Reshi’s GitHub page, the actual 2003 game engine has been compiled natively for ARM64 and runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The project uses EA’s GPL source release and builds on existing community work, while adding the iOS and iPadOS port.

A mechanical keyboard with gaming handheld-style shoulder buttons is not something you see everyday
Prototypist Keyboy Advance, a Gameboy Advanced inspired keyboard

For many people who grew up in the early 2000s, the Game Boy Advance was the handheld they carried everywhere. The Keyboy Advance is trying to bring some of that nostalgia to a modern desk, using the wide, landscape-style silhouette of Nintendo’s 2001 handheld as the basis for a compact mechanical keyboard kit. It is not an official Nintendo product, but the visual references are easy to spot.
