Favia, who rose to fame as one of the most beloved choreographers on the hit show So You Think You Can Dance, told The Huffington Post that her own relationship history served as inspiration for the piece. “I wanted to show people all the emotions you feel when you’re about to end something that was once very special: sadness, anger, confusion, doubt, and finally, relief,” Favia said.
And while art imitates life, Favia relied more on her past than her present for her creation, especially since Buzan is her current boyfriend. But even so, the possibility of losing her love lent even more emotion to the routine. “There were moments where I was thinking, ‘What if I were to lose him? What if this were to happen to us?'” Favia said. “I definitely pulled from that a lot during the creation process.”
Set to James Bay’s Let It Go, the dance packs a serious punch in just over three minutes (if only breakups in real life could happen so quickly). So grab a box of tissues and start feeling all the feelings — it’s a bumpy but beautiful ride.
