Life is Strange limited edition is coming to PC

The surprise hit Life is Strange originally released as a digital-only title on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC, and a few weeks ago, publisher Square Enix announced that the game would be making its way to physical shelves, but this version was only confirmed for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, it has now been confirmed that the physical version of Life is Strange will also be released on PC.

While the PC version of the Life is Strange limited edition — complete with a soundtrack CD and artbook — will still require a Steam account to run, it will still include a physical game disc, according to the official announcement from Square Enix’s Scott Blows. It will still be a little tricky to get your hands on, as it’s only being sold through the Square Enix store, and it appears that they’re limited to North America.

“Life started getting strange,” protagonist Max says with appropriate teenage angst at the end of the physical game’s teaser trailer. While I waited for Max to actually call life “strange” during the course of the game’s five episodes, she always seemed to have another word in mind, including my personal favorite: “life is … weird.”

If you’ve already completed Life is Strange and just want to get your hands on more of Dontnod’s work, then you might be in luck: according to a Reddit translation, Dontnod’s Alain Damasio announced that a sequel would be developed. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, given the less-than-stellar reception of the studio’s previous game, Remember Me (which we called a “vapid brawler” that “could hardly be considered anything close to art”) as well as the more flexible digital, episode release model.

The limited edition of Life is Strange launches in stores on January 19. It’s taking everything in my power not to double-dip.

Ghost of Tsushima is already shaping up to be a monster PC port

Sony detailed the features that will be available in the Ghost of Tsushima PC port on Tuesday, setting the stage for when the game launches on May 16. Despite some rocky PC ports from PlayStation Studios and porting studio Nixxes in the past, Ghost of Tsushima already looks impressive.
Ghost of Tsushima DLSS, FSR, and XeSS
It's launching with all of the modern bells and whistles a PC gamer could want. That includes support for Nvidia's DLSS 3 and AMD's FSR 3, both of which support upscaling and frame generation. There's also support for Intel XeSS, as well as native anti-aliasing modes for FSR and DLSS. This runs the game at native resolution but uses the anti-aliasing of the upscalers for improved image quality -- read our explainer on Nvidia Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing for more on that.

There's a treasure trove of features here that means virtually every PC gamer will have access to performance-boosting tech. FSR 3 support at launch is particularly noteworthy. Adoption of AMD's frame generation tech has been slow, and although we've seen it in recent games, it usually isn't available at launch.

Life Eater is an unnerving horror game about ritualistic sacrifice
Key art for Life Eater.

In 2023, Strange Scaffold released El Paso, Elsewhere, a horror-tinged throwback to the likes of Max Payne that also told a deeply personal and unsettling story about a toxic relationship. Its next game, Life Eater, puts players in the shoes of a serial killer seeking out new targets to kill and sacrifice to a god he's starting to question the existence of. This isn't a Manhunt- or Hitman-style stalk-and-kill game; it offers a feeling of detachment by having players parse through timelines to learn everything they need to abduct and properly sacrifice a target.

Life Eater is a brisk, yet unnerving experience. Even if it doesn't quite reach the heights of El Paso, Elsewhere, it affirms that Strange Scaffold is one of the best studios working in the horror gaming space right now.
