We’ve known for months now that more information regarding Final Fantasy XV‘s release date would be coming this month. Square Enix has an event planned for later this month, but it seems that maybe we don’t have to wait until then to find out.
While the release date has yet to be officially announced, Final Fantasy XV will be released on September 30, according to a report over the weekend from Gematsu. “Our sources in this case are reliable,” Gematsu says. “However, given the sensitivity of the matter, and that within a company setting anything can change before it is made public, we’re reporting this as a rumor until the release date is officially announced.”
Square Enix has been adamant that Final Fantasy XV would be released in 2016, and late last year, reports began to surface that Square Enix was considering releasing the game this summer, so this rumored release date does seem to line up with what we already know. A fall release would give the game a head start on the holiday rush, and September is increasingly a month that has seen its share of high-profile releases.
Waiting until September should be a cakewalk compared to the waiting that hardcore Final Fantasy fans have already endured for this game. The project initially began development as Final Fantasy Versus XIII in 2006, before the project was reworked and given official sequel status in 2013. The game has had its fair share of delays, but it seems fairly certain that this time fans shouldn’t have to worry about yet another setback.
As for whether or not this rumored release date is true, it won’t be long until we find out officially from Square Enix. The Final Fantasy XV release date is set to be unveiled at the company’s “Uncovered” event, which takes place in Los Angeles on March 30, starting at 7 pm PT.
