LG.Philips to Provide LCD Displays to HP

Under the agreement, LG.Philips LCD will be the primary supplier of LCDs for notebook PCs and monitors from June 2005 to May 2008. This deal is a substantial increase over the existing HP supply agreement.

LG.Philips LCD and HP formally announced their supply agreement during a signing ceremony on June 7th at the LG Twin Towers, which was attended by LG.Philips LCD Executive Vice President for Sales, Duke Koo and HP Personal Systems Group Vice President Kirk Moul.

LG.Philips LCD currently supplies HP with the company’s LCD panels for their notebook and LC monitor products. HP’s L2335 23″ LCD monitor received an editor’s choice award last June from Designtechnica. You can read the review here. LG.Philips LCD also provides the LCD panels used in the Apple Cinema displays.

The deal between the two companies is valued at about $5 billion dollars.

HP Envy x360 13 vs. Apple MacBook Air M2
HP Envy x360 13 2022 front view showing display and keyboard deck.

HP's Envy x360 13 is an excellent convertible 2-in-1 for not a lot of money. It's extremely flexible, well-built, and it provides solid productivity performance while being priced to undercut much of the competition. That includes the Apple MacBook Air M2, an excellent laptop that's among the least expensive MacBooks.

If you're looking at 13-inch machines, then these two laptops should be on your shortlist. They're quite different, though, and so the choice between them isn't an easy one to make. We'll try to make it a little easier.

The LG Smart Monitor with a Netflix show streaming on the display

You could only stream via AirPlay 2 to an overpriced Apple monitor or a Samsung smart TV -- until now. LG just released the Smart Monitor which has AirPlay 2 built into it and doubles as a smart home hub, so now you can stream from your Mac to the monitor without the need for cables.

The LG Smart Monitor 32SQ780S is a 32-inch 60Hz monitor with a 4K display mounted on an adjustable ergonomic stand. It’s a beefy boy, at nearly 25 pounds and 16 inches thick. There are USB-C ports on the back, but not much else in the way of I/O.

Apple’s mini-LED external display may be delayed until early 2023
The Mac Studio and Studio Display on a desk.

Apple might be looking to release a 27-inch mini-LED external display in 2023 that could serve as a follow-up to the Studio Display that launched in early 2022, according to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young.

This prediction comes after the product release was supposedly delayed twice. Young expected the peripheral would launch during the summer, but Apple instead showcased new MacBook Air laptops featuring a second-generation proprietary chip.
