On this episode of Digital Trends Live, host Greg Nibler is joined by DT co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Dan Gaul to discuss the biggest tech stories of the day, including Tesla’s sales records, Samsung’s (reported) fix for the Galaxy Fold, smartglasses that keep things in focus, NASA’s new asteroid mission, a thought-controlled robotic hand, and more.

Nibler then chats with Henry Bzeih, CTO and senior vice president of automotive at Flex, about how autonomous driving will change the way people commute, as well as Flex’s role in the industry.

The Google Pixel Fold could beat the Galaxy Z Fold in one big way

One hurdle that foldable smartphones have yet to clear is the issue they face with battery life. All of the current leading foldables — like the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Oppo Find N2 — leave a lot to be desired when it comes to battery drain. Thankfully, the Google Pixel Fold might be leading the way when it comes to foldable batteries.

According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Fold will feature a battery cell bigger than that of both the Z Fold 4 and Find N2. If accurate, this would give the Pixel Fold the largest battery of any foldable yet, and a potential huge edge over Google's stiff competition.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is breaking again, and it looks bad

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with a “new protective film made of stretchable PET5 and optimized display panel layers resulting in a Main Screen that’s 80% more durable than previous devices.” Samsung also said back in 2021 that the phone has been “put through a strenuous folding test, verified by Bureau Veritas, to withstand folding 200,000 times.”

But how does that play out in reality? Actual Galaxy Z Fold 3 users are living a rather different story — one where the inner foldable display has broken or cracked within a year, or so, of purchase.
