Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta opens for Nathan Drake Collection buyers in December

PlayStation 4 owners who buy a copy of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will get an early look at Uncharted 4 in December, Sony announced today.

Users with an active PlayStation Plus membership can access an exclusive Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta test via the series-spanning compilation Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which launches in October.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection collects the first three entries in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series in a new package optimized for the PlayStation 4. Featured games boast improved texture detail and a 1080p presentation that maintains a consistent 60 frames-per-second throughout.

The collection also adds new unlockable trophies and a Photo Mode, allowing players to capture memorable moments from throughout the franchise.

Early adopters who pre-order Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will receive the digital “Nathan Drake Pack,” which offers in-game perks like alternate character outfits and new weapon skins. The pre-order package also includes an exclusive PlayStation 4 system theme.

While few details regarding the upcoming Uncharted 4 beta test have been announced, Sony notes that playable maps and modes will be announced in the weeks leading up to the release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

Originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2007, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune set high standards for cinematic third-person shooter gameplay on Sony’s seventh-generation console. A sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves introduced a multiplayer mode in 2009, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception wrapped up the trilogy in 2011. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection includes the single-player campaigns from all three games, along with a large quantity of associated downloadable content released throughout the last several years.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection premieres on October 9. The Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta test kicks off on December 4, and extends through December 13. A demo version of The Nathan Drake Collection will hit the PlayStation Network on September 29.

The best split-screen PS4 games
It Takes Two

There was a time when there was no other option for playing games with your friends besides plugging a second controller into your console and loading up a game with a split-screen mode. In modern times, thanks to video games taking advantage of the internet to allow for more players to come together, even across continents, split-screen play has slowly become phased out of most titles. Even PS4 games where multiplayer, co-op, or competitive is the primary focus are no longer guaranteed to let two players on the same console play together.

Whether it's due to technical limitations or trying to bring people into their online ecosystems to sell micro-transactions, split-screen gaming on the PlayStation 4 isn't always easy to do. But that doesn't mean every developer has given up on the old tradition of getting together with your friends for a glorious multiplayer session. In fact, there are some absolutely fantastic games that still allow you to team up or battle it out without going online. Here are the best split-screen PS4 games in 2021.

A zombie crawls after someone in Resident Evil 2.

The PlayStation 4 Pro, or PS4 Pro, is a high-powered version of Sony's very popular PS4 platform, supports 4K and high-dynamic range (HDR) content, as well offering a number of technical improvements to PS4 games old and new. Though the console's increased power can benefit any PS4 game, some games will be optimized to take full advantage of the Pro's hardware. A couple of Xbox One consoles support this technology too, and we have a list of games for that as well.

Sony has referred to these games, particularly the ones that are already out, as "forward compatible." New games with 4K and HDR features will sport a "PS4 Pro Enhanced" label, which lets buyers easily spot titles that make use of the extra power. If you need a primer to what all this fancy graphical nonsense means, we suggest checking out our complete guide to HDR.

The most common PS4 problems and how to fix them
PlayStation 4

After eight years and the launch of a new console, some of the most common PS4 problems are still around. Many of the most devastating problems -- such as the dreaded "Blue Line of Death" -- only apply to early manufacturing runs of the PS4. Small issues like discs automatically ejecting may show up, regardless of how new your console is. From the biggest to the smallest, we'll walk you through how to solve the most common PS4 problems.

There are three different PS4 models: The standard PS4, the PS4 Slim, and the PS4 Pro. Sony just calls the "Slim" model a PS4, which makes it more difficult to
tell the difference between the original PS4. If you're having trouble finding out which PS4 console you have, look at the edges. The PS4 has sharp edges, while the updated "Slim" model has rounded edges. Make sure to figure out your model before starting.
