NY Attorney General Sues Samsung, Sharp and Others for LCD Price Fixing

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has sued several major suppliers of liquid crystal display screens used in computers, televisions and cell phones, claiming consumers paid extra because of price fixing.

Some of the companies settled earlier, similar federal charges.

The New York suit filed Friday in state court in Manhattan seeks damages and restitution to state and local governments along with penalties for actions from 1996 to 2006 by companies in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan and their U.S. divisions.

It claims the cartel’s scheme cost New Yorkers hundreds of millions of dollars.

Defendants are Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Sharp Corp., Toshiba Corp., Hitachi Displays Ltd., LG Display Co. Ltd., AU Optronics Corp., Chi Mei Corp., CMO Japan Co. Ltd., and U.S. affiliates.

Samsung’s innovative Frame TVs remain at their lowest prices yet on Amazon

Samsung's Frame TV
elicits either a "love it" or "hate it" reaction from most, but you can't fault the electronics manufacturer for attempting to think out of the box with so many options out there. Sure, you could use the legs and place the TV on your entertainment center, but this looks way better up on the wall like a piece of expensive art.

The thin profile of this QLED 4K TV allows it to be hung just like a picture. It looks like one, too, due to a customizable outer bezel and a white border around the QLED display itself akin to a picture frame. Screen sizes from 49 inches up to as large as 65 inches are available, and an included mount allows you to mount it flush with the wall just like a painting. Amazon offers expert mounting for an additional $100 in case you don't trust yourself (we'd recommend it for the best results, and the least risk of you damaging your expensive new TV).

Sharp claims it will be bringing the world’s largest 8K LCD TV to IFA 2019
sharp worlds biggest 8k lcd tv ifa2019 120 inch 4k

You may think that 75-inch 4K LED TV of yours is big, but Sharp is about to give your media room an inferiority complex thanks to a new, massive 120-inch 8K LCD monitor that it plans to reveal for the first time at this year's IFA convention in Berlin.

The news is mostly a teaser as Sharp has released very few detailson the TV's capabilities. What we do know is that it will have embedded 5G connectivity. TVs and 5G feel like an odd combination when seen through the lens of 4G cellular technology, which is typically used for mobile data connections. However, 5G's enormous bandwidth makes it a perfect conduit for 8K content, which has the potential to overwhelm even decently speedy home internet connections.
